Why are there different denominations in Christianity? One way of looking at it:
Different groups tolerate different sins.
In my church, for example, gluttony is much more socially acceptable than, say, wrath, to just choose an example from among the “seven deadly sins” (Greed, Lust, Gluttony, Wrath, Sloth , Envy, and Pride). What about your denomination? Because, well, we all agree that nobody’s perfect, right?
Which is the real reason for the season. Merry Christmas, beloved!
Oooh, you’re so right. I’ve been known to describe my current congregation as, “the sort of people who think beer is worse than gossip.” And when I say that to people, they either smirk in understanding, or look confused and say, “Well, of course it is.” This is why we had to be *commanded* to love each other.
Merry Christmas, Rebecca & Family!
oh. my. goodness. BRILLIANT! You are absolutely right! I know Hubby and I have talked about each having pet sins, but your statement sums it up brilliantly. Thank you!! Be warned, lol I’m going to use that! (With credit of course!)
Although I haven’t said anything officially before now, we’re currently between churches. Because of that, I’ll refrain from commenting. But that said, oh my oh my could I share a list from the last 15 years of my church experiences… oh boy oh boy.
A blessed holiday to you and yours as well!
I think this is true, and not just for Christians. I’m Unitarian, and one of our seven principles is our belief in “the inherent worth and dignity of every person.” Yet that is the one UU’s tend to struggle with the most — remembering that people with different values deserve our respect as human beings. It’s a variation of “hate the sin, love the sinner.” How you show that love is a true demonstration of faith.
I’ve always referred to my personal faith as “the church of be nice to everybody.” Works for me!
Certainly there’s more to that– there’s also how much you’ll tolerate was well as the kinds– but it’s a very enlightening observation at that!
Merry Christmas!
God hates all sin. All sin offends. Therefore, try to be good at all times and make God happy :).
Whether it’s true or not, I’m greatly taken with this insight. I don’t have any conclusions yet, but I’m going to try it out as a hypothesis.
Hey there,
Great Blog!! I personally loved your pics …. Must admit you have a great sense of style. Keep up the good work.
PS: I have initiated an idea to create a fashion and style blogroll where bloggers from the jewelry, fashion, style and beauty could participate.
All you need to do is to add my blog link to your blog and i’ll do the same.
That way, we could have a mutual partnership and we could refer visitors to each other’s blog.
Please let me know if you would be interested.
Thanks!

Well, Southern Baptists (my denomination) are hardly bastions of virtue when it comes to gluttony. Unfortunately. LOL
MIn, of course, is right, but stating this concept alone is simply more thought-provoking. The corollary to “how much you’ll tolerate as well as the kinds”, that is, what sins we make up, is illustrated in MellaD’s comment. Nowhere in the Bible is beer described as a sin. Neither is smoking, dancing, or donuts.
Gluttony. Hmm… Does the fact that our minister describes the philosophy of our local church (not the whole denomination, just our congregation) as “We eat, therefore we are”, say something about our view of gluttony??? 😉
