Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes

green-paisley-umbrella.JPGI love my umbrella! Truth be told, I have yet to use it to keep rain off, I have very little need for an umbrella for that purpose. When absolutely necessary, I will sometimes use a hat. Otherwise, I just allow myself to get damp.

But something in the Creation website gave me the idea it would be good to throw it in, so I did. To which fact I attribute majority credit for the fact that dd and I did not get burned.

Also notice in the picture my beloved Chacos, which I wore everyday after I realized what an intense event this was (I estimate it was at least a mile and a half each way to the car, and not flat either!). I saw more Chacos being worn at this event than I have seen all spring and summer here in Spokane.

You’ve got to admit, for sport sandals, Chacos are the best-looking thing going. (We also shot a little sixteen second video of other people’s feet. If you are a total shoe hound, check it out! Or if you just want to see my first and only YouTube.)

Certain items – sport sandals, umbrellas, snow boots, etc. – which may not belong in our everyday wardrobe, become invaluable under the right circumstances. And then, it’s always nice to have a stylish one, rather than the ugly one people tried to convince you was sufficient when you were a kid.

What practical protective gear would you recommend keeping on hand just in case?

  1. I have to admit, Chacos are the only sport sandal I’ve ever considered buying. They’re simple and the curved sole makes them look so comfy.

  2. Thanks for saying that, ambika (and I know you’re not just trying to be nice). Now that you mention it, the curved sole, in addition to the z configuration of the straps and the variety of colors, is probably what makes me think Chacos are more elegant than other sport sandals.

I have to say, too, that they last extremely well. This is my 5th summer of wearing the ones pictured. One would have to examine them very closely to notice the ever-so-slight fraying of the straps, the soles are still in excellent condition.

  3. Rebecca, I am an obsessive compulsive umbrella carrier. I have a micro umbrella I bought to go to AZ in the spring (to keep either rain or sun off) that is usually with me now. I also regularly carry Body Glide to stop potential blisters before they develop.

  4. Well, I had to go look up body glide. Since the return of flats, I am seeing more and more band-aids on people’s feet. Does Body Glide really work to prevent them then? What a fabulous idea!

  5. Thanks to Wendy for the bodyglide info! As this is the second time I have seen a “real” person recommend it, I had my husband stop to pick up some for me at a running store not too far from where he changes buses. The shipping charges online were exhorbitant for an itty bitty item.

While in the store he spotted a tank top that he really liked. He wears these to work and has a rule that he won’t spend more than $4 for one. This one was $120. At that price, he thought it should come with someone who did the running for you.

  6. update on bodyglide

wore it while hubby and I walked to and from a local arts/crafts festival – about 6 miles total in 90 degree plus heat and humidity. No chafing or irritation or heat rash on inner thighs!

  7. Thanks for the update Vildy, I’m definitely going to have to get some. This Saturday I’m going to an event necessitating my wearing my iffy shoes.

And I agree with your husband about the tank top. $120!

  8. I just posted about how much I love Chacos! I wear them every day during the summer. Since I bought them in plain black, they are even more versatile, and always comfortable!
