Energy Management

Last month, I shared about my lifelong challenges with energy management: as a creative, I need loads of time alone to think; as an extravert, I desperately need the people component for energy.

Other variables impact energy too. You know how when some idea shows up in your life, it often comes in multiples? Well, recently I have encountered a set of energy management questions in multiple places (sadly, I can’t give you all the references cuz I just don’t remember); here’s a version from The Next Right Thing: Guided Journal by Emily P. Freeman, via a friend of mine who is working through the journal:

  1. What was life draining this month?
  2. What was life giving this month?

For me, for now, I think it’ll be healthy for me to consider these questions more than once a month.

Ruminating on these this morning, my mind went naturally to the aesthetic choices we make in our surroundings. My art coffee table is life giving; the dust bunnies in the corner are life draining.

And in our wardrobes. The necklace that I can throw on with almost anything is life giving; the collection of bracelets that hit at exactly the widest part of my body, well, they’re not 😉
