Do you have enough clothes? Or, like me, do you have too many of some things and not enough of others? After thinking about this for these many years, first blogging and later taking Personal Stylist training with Carla Mathis (author of The Triumph of Individual Style), I am getting more strategic; consequently, life is becoming more peaceful.
HOWEVER, it is now midway through February and I have not shopped at all for that one thing on my list. February is bra month. And, since today we got hit with another six or so inches of snow, I need to decide how I am going to accomplish this.
What I have done is to identify my current favorite bra I own. It is by aerie (at American Eagle Outfitters), in a cotton blend which, sadly, I am not seeing on their website.
The good news is there are good sales! AEO, for example, is running 40% off bras, making them for the most part under $20 each. Also good news: Alot of bras are available through Amazon, which is especially good if you know exactly what you need and have Amazon prime. (Consider, if you can afford it, donating any undergarments bought online that don’t work for you, rather than returning. How lovely for those in need to be able to have NEW!)
If that is not your cup of tea, here are a couple other ideas:
- NORDSTROM (or The Rack) is a good place to get fitted and to buy, especially if you need a small band size and larger cup size.
- Larger size and smaller budget? Consider Walmart.
- On the other end of the fit spectrum, I have had luck at Target.
How many bras do you need?
Realistically, at a minimum and assuming laundry every week, two nude (close to your actual skin tone) bras can get you by. It would be even nicer to have a third, to wear when the two are being washed. This does not account for workout wear.
Do you have to wash your bra every time you wear it?
No. That is, not here in the Great Northwest. In summer it could be nice to have that option. It makes sense to me to let them rest a day in between wearings.
I found a great (pink, floral, black, other) bra in my size, should I buy it?
Maybe. Colors (and textures, like lace) are fun, but they are always more limiting. If you change your shirt midday, do you want to have to change your bra as well?
Can I put my bra in the dryer?
Please don’t. It will wear out so much faster! I just wash mine in the washing machine with the rest of the laundry, and then hang them to dry. Save your money for something a little bit more fun!
A good bra is priority. The other day a friend was lamenting that the things she spends the most on don’t even show.
Can you relate?
