Holiday Shopping Official Kick-off

What are you doing tomorrow, the day after Thanksgiving?

Me? Last year, with a family member working in retail (Macy’s), we concocted a crazy plan: take her to work at *gasp* 5 am, then go to Krispy Kreme, pick up coffee and head to watch the insanity from the safety of the parking lot.  This year I’m sleeping in.

If you, like me, are a bit overwhelmed by the seasonal retail scene, how about some online shopping? I predict the day is coming when all my Christmas shopping will be done from my armchair (or as my sister would say, “in my skivvies”). If not shopping, is anybody having a Thanksgiving leftovers party?

  1. First time ever: My shopping was done as of 4 days ago, all online except for 1 trip to Barnes & Noble for 3 blank journals. Including stocking stuffers (except the candy of course).

    It’s a great feeling!!!

Have a lovely Thanksgiving and holiday weekend Rebecca!

  3. We aren’t shopping this year… we are making or giving something simple from the heart…

I do wish we had a krispy kreme here though 🙂

I guess I’ll have to settle for some leftover cinnamon vanilla glazed pumpkin cake!!

    God bless!

  4. Wow, kudos to you Jennifer — that must be a great feeling, I wish I could have it too — but things just pile up at the end of the year . . . what’s your secret, do you start in July or something? Tell us!!

Since we live in Korea we usually did ALL our gift giving online (lots of gift cards, fruit, etc.) but our currency here has plummeted by nearly 50% so all that is being changed — this year it’ll be Korean snacks, tea, fashion accessories, fun stuff mailed to everyone — my family is pretty keen on the exotic weirdness of it all but my in-laws just think it’s plain weird, so we have to scramble to find stuff that’s acceptable and non-threatening for them! *sigh* not to sound like a whiner but Sallie’s idea is the best, we have done that in the past but the in-laws were underwhelmed by our offerings . . . . I love them all dearly, they are just hard to shop for!

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  5. I’m pretty much done. I’ve sent all the packages abroad that need to go, all the gifts to relatives up North too. Bought very, very small token gifts this year.

Bought the family ONE gift. A beautiful edition of Scrabble.

  6. Happy Black Friday! IF you’re not completely finished (jealous, jealous, jealous of those who are), and don’t have to mail items, I’ve heard that the best shopping days of the season this year will start the Saturday before – right up to Christmas eve – retailers are so worried about anything moving.

SO, if you decide to use this NFO and wait; please let us know how you manage to sleep nights!

Back to your original question, Rebecca. You probably wanted to know whether we were shopping or not, right? Not!
    > We were at the Church at 9am to help exchange old for new missals and music books.
    > Got back in time to see the stock market close 🙂 and have some left over cherry pie that our grandson and half-brother brought yesterday. Yum!
    > Next, I get to rate health insurance plans. It’s that time of year and our carrier doubled it’s premium and raised co-pay. I feel for you Ellem. You’re living proof that thi$ me$$ has encircled the globe. Here’s hoping it will be over soon.

  7. I was busy visiting family and friends in Seattle and playing at the Great Wolf Lodge water park on Friday to even think about shopping. I am looking forward to it this year, though, since I will have a little more freedom and will actually see all of my family.

Mom – I wish you lived closer so you could get Kaiser Medicare!
