MyShape

Joy has tested out MyShape.com and found their service to be both helpful and affordable. From her post:

I ordered a white blouse, a pair of pants, a denim skirt and a long sleeve shirred tee. Total price after discount, $73.

I’m intrigued and impressed!

Update:  I’m an S.  Who knew?

Color Palettes

Lloyd Boston recommends a concept he terms “identify your life palette”, that is, basing your wardrobe on the colors you just naturally love. If you aren’t certain about yours, you may find inspiration at wear palettes, a blog with a stunningly simple premise: taking The Sartorialist’s photos and extrapolating the color palettes (hat tip: Julie). I haven’t worked my way through the entire thing, but here’s one palette that works for me: white, pink, army, brown. Don’t spend all day there – well, I guess you can if you want – but do tell us if you find one inspiring.

Today’s Social Events

Speaking of inspiration, am I the only one who likes to coordinate my outfit thematically to a show I am going to see? Today’s outfit (worn also to MOPS this morning): well-worn jeans tucked into my flat boots (normally I’d wear heels, but I’m still babying my back), white button-up shirt trimmed with ruffles, with my brown paisley velvet blazer. Feeling rather like the dread pirate Rebecca, somehow I did not feel too costumey to be seen in public. Care to guess what movie we’re going to? Or buy the theme song, by my favorite band?

What’s on your agenda for this weekend?

  1. I can totally see you in that dress! But that could also mean you are a Y, S, or A. I’m a little leery about their descriptions; after all, Joy expected to be a Y based on the description and turned out to be an M. I expected to be an M. Maybe it’s just the description of M that’s confusing.

Let me know what you find out. Either way, if they give you recommendations of things that fit – that’s great!

BTW, the movie was alot of fun. We had a little girl in our group who is barely older than A and she enjoyed it too. 🙂

  2. Beth, that dress is wonderful! Even if you turn out to be something other than an M, the personal shop will make sizing recommendations for things you choose which are outside your official shape. They also seem to be pretty good about tossing in a couple of things which suit your style and color preferences from other, shapes. The red top I ordered is technically for Y, S & P (I think), but is a neckline I already have, and know works for me.

I’m eagerly awaiting my order. I’ll let you know how the recommendations on shape & size go when everything arrives. Unfortunately there’s a couple weeks of delay on the casual pants, which are the one thing I was really, REALLY looking for the sizing system to help me with. The denim skirt is going to replace my now too-large favorite casual skirt.

I’m not big on some of their suggestions. The graphic knits & tees aren’t really my thing. They scream “every other mom in the PTA” to me. But, if the sizing is good on the blouse, I’m going back to order one of the washable suede tailored jackets. Finding one to fit well from shoulder to waist has been tough, and I’d appreciate the help from the site. Plus, several have moved into the sale/discount category.

  3. Ooh, just this fall I started working on a pallette — ok, it’s only a few colors — brown and peacock or dusty turqoise blue, tan and olive. I also have a black/white/red/cream/gray theme going. But blue//brown/green are my signature colors, I know just the right shades that are wow for me and it is a time saver to pass over colors that I know aren’t going to work well for me.

  4. That blue/brown/green palette sounds wonderful- VERY workable! I encourage you to keep to it. 🙂 It’s such a timesaver in shopping!
