  1. Ewwww. Crocs!

Except for the fact that they have holes at the join of the upper and the sole, I might consider wearing them in a mucky garden …

  2. I can see where they are comfortable and functional-I just don’t think they are very attractive. Then again I don’t think most flip flops are attractive (to me they still look like shower shoes from the Army) and although I love my Birks for summer comfort I know that they also are pretty darn ugly!

  3. I’m with you ladies. And I don’t think most flip flops are attractive either, but I have one friend who for the past several years has been wearing black patent Birkenstock flip flops. Now that’s stylish!

  4. ahem…Birkenstock’s rock. My newest- a lovely pair of zebra striped ones with sparkley buckles….they are *not* ugly! *big grin here*

Anyhow, I’m one of those who thought they were kind of cool until everyone and there dog began to wear them…what does that say about me? Am I revealing the snob within?

    shamelessly yours,
    bonnie

  5. Actually Birkenstocks were cool. Now they’re Grandma shoes. But obviously they don’t have to be: hot pink, black patent, zebra stripes.

But I don’t know how you could be old enough to remember when Birkenstocks became ubiquitous.

Snob? No. I prefer to call it innovative. 😉

  6. People. They’re PLASTIC. Nuff said.

(My daughters do have them, though. They are just so convenient. But much cuter on little feet than my size eights!)

  7. I knew I should have qualified. It was the crocks that I meant were everywhere. Target has knock-offs now, I just looked at some for pool shoes for my son…

When I got my first pair of Birks, I was 12- in Jr. High, and they called them ‘Jesus shoes.’ It didn’t sway me from wearing them, though. My feet got hooked and I really *do* call me feet snobs. Thank goodness they’ve begun to make fun ones.

as if you all wanted to know all that…

  8. Crocs…bleck…Never liked them, never will. I only kinda like them on little kids, but other than that? Gardening shoes are best kept in the garden. At least…They look like gardening shoes to me.

  9. Hate them! Crocs make grown-up feet look like boats. They remind me of the Jellies craze from the 80’s.

  10. They are adorable on babes and tiny children. Okay, but not great on women. Absolutely repulsive on a man.

They’re just plain ugly. And holey. And so not cute. Unless, of course, they are on babes. hehe

  11. Okay….Alyson mentioned jellies…And I just have to say that I was a little kid when jellies were all the rage and I LOVED them! I still have found memories of those shoes. 🙂 But on an adult, uh, no…

  12. I don’t like the traditional Crocs, but I do think the Croc Prima ballet flats are really cute, particularly the silver pair.

  13. I bought the adorables (ages 4 and 2) the “knock off” hello kitty crocs from Payless. Too cute for words. Actually, santa brought them along with a whole slug of Hello Kitty stuff from the Target dollar spot at Xmas. They wear them constantly – and I can wash them!!! yay! their regular sandals get SO grungy playing out.

I have a pair of actual garden clogs that are like crocs for running to the mailbox or the barn – not to be worn as far as across our gravel road…

I have one pair of flip flops – with a small wedge – the flat ones are strictly for 13 yr olds, IMO.

  14. Being able to wash them is a definite advantage. My kids sandals get so stinky in the summertime! Teva’s have the antimicrobial stuff in their footbeds, but if I can’t find them at Ross I can’t afford them. (Ross is an excellent place for shoes!).
Anyhow, I’m going to buy some now for my kiddos, because I can’t stand stinky shoes.

  15. Dana, I so agree with you!

I have a wonderful pair of Reefs, but I really just wear them from the cabin to the pool or around the house/yard. Today, when I happened to be out at the Community College, I was surprised to see how many of the young ladies (including my 16 yo) were wearing jeans and flip-flops.

Alot depends on how it sounds when you walk: s_lap, s_lap, s_lap is not attractive on anyone!

  16. Don’t necessarily love em or hate em- but I definitely don’t own em.

This weekend, I saw a friend of mine wearing Mary Jane crocs and they were the cutest thing– perfect for casual summerwear! It makes me want some of those… but as for the gardening clogs… they DO look like they belong in the mucky yard.
