Here’s the tee-shirt about which Dana said:

speaking of target – and your next post on white ts – they have the NICEST new scoop ts – double layered in front for modesty (sheerness and clingliness is reduced) and they are garment washed and shrink resistant – 9.99 each. there’s a scoop neck style and a sleeveless with a V. Nice colors and they work under my suit jackets.

Merona® Double Layer Basic Tee

  • Short-Sleeve Casual, Basic Tee
  • Jersey
  • Made of 93% Cotton 7% Spandex
  • Scoop Neck
  • Hemmed Cuffs
  • Double Layer Construction
  • Tumble Dry Low, Machine Wash Cold

The bad news is: the Target affiliate program doesn’t give me the Build Your Own Link option; so if you want to buy now, you’ll have to use the banner link below and search a little.

The good news is: the price – $7.99 or $9.99, depending on the size (lots of sizes too!) and free shipping if you spend at least $50. Thanks Dana!

  1. I’m always on the look-out for a good T-shirt. Some are so cheap and thin that they aren’t enjoyable to wear. (I hate being self-conscious about clothing)
Thanks for the tip! I’ll be looking for these.

  2. The t-shirt is cute – if you have uper arms that don’t swing! Is it just me, or have other women noticed that it is really difficult to find t-shirts with a sleeve length that actually covers about 2/3 of the upper arm without looking sloppy? All I can find in stores seem to be t-shirts with little bitty sleeves like the one pictured above. I will not buy them. I am 46 yrs. old, 5’3″ and weigh 114 lbs. – obviously not overweight. I also exercise 6 days a week. HOWEVER, at a certain age, things will just “swing” and the upper arm is one of them. I love wearing t-shirts, but I like a bit of coverage!

  3. Kathy, I too have recently noticed that I have one more area of my body to be concerned about – yes, the upper arm. The good news is, I have noticed that the fresher looking styles are going towards a short sleeve that is a little longer than the almost cap sleeves we’ve been seeing, like these.

I still plan on wearing my shorter ones for a few years, but I am more sensitive to what happens if I wave at people and so on. 😕

If I think of it, I’ll post some of the longer ones when I find them. 🙂

  4. I also don’t want short cap sleeves. My arms don’t swing but they are large and muscular. I bought a couple of tees that were Sport Savvy brand from a thrift store. No problem with too short sleeves. I think they came from Sam’s Club and don’t know if they still sell those.

One trick I learned from observing another tee I bought at the thrift store: Some tees with the longer, fuller short sleeves are too much of a good thing and the sleeves are too wide. If you make a small inverted pleat at the sleeve end, you retain all the room and coverage but it creates a nice, still loose enough shape. The pleat is located where the fold line of the sleeve is and is about an inch on the underside, so not much. Then you stitch once near the hem and once again about an inch away, leaving the pleat to be an open little gusset. Looks nice.

  5. Why I brought up the point about the wide sleeves is that then the tee stops looking feminine and starts looking masculine. That little pleat makes it feminine looking again because it shapes the sleeve..

  6. I’m so self conscious about being immodest that I almost always were a cami under even t-shirts… this looks like a good alternative and I’ll have to check it out…

  7. I wear a jacket, a shirt as a jacket or a cardi, hoodie or other layer over T’s when out and about, so sleeve length isn’t a big deal to me – however, the Vildy pleat is a great idea!

The 2 things not mentioned about this shirt that make it even better (to me) is that it’s slightly stretchy so it holds the “shape” and stays put better over the top of the hip and it’s tagless…

  8. What a great find! I always end up wearing some sort of shirt under my white T’s and quite frankly, it’s hot and annoying. I’ll be on the lookout for these! Thanks!

  9. Once again I am reminded that I need to go to Old Navy. Thankfully, where I live, Old Navy and Target combine into one trip very nicely. 🙂

  10. Thanks for posting about these. My girls and I tried some on at Target as soon as we got a chance, and had mixed feelings about them.
It’s a very pretty cut, and the hint of stretchiness gives a nice shape. We found that they were sized very small for our taste – my petite 12yo ended up w/a medium, while I got an extra large (I’m normally a size 10).
But don’t be fooled into a false sense of security by the double-layer in front. Be sure to take a good look at your back in the mirror. I thought that the darker colors were ok, but the white showed every detail of my bra in back.
