The common shoe color mistake I am talking about is to wear only black dress shoes, if your coloring is soft or fair. In the early days of this blog, I suggested that the one shoe color you really need is the color of your hair. But there is an easy alternative.
What brings this up again? Other bloggers talking about the return of nude heels. Since high school I have considered “leg-color” the single most versatile neutral.
I’m afraid that some people, however, consider it an odd, shoeless, uncomfortable look. What about you?
I don’t wear only black dress shoes, but I wear predominantly black dress shoes.
I own a pair of nude strappy sandals, and I love them in the summer with certain lighter colour (not white) outfits.
But I tend to like my splash of colour in the winter to be a handbag, and find black shoes/boots give me flexibility in last minute bag choices. Plus my dressier outfits for winter are darker colours, like charcoal gray pants with a teal pinstripe. And I happen to have a teal satchel!
A teal satchel? That is the coolest thing ever!

I am starting to love Nude heels…
I am more of a jeans and cute black cami or something – so i usually go for coloured shoes and bags…but everyone def needs a few pairs of nude and black and brown heels.

hmmm, I think that “nude” can be sort of difficult, because the variations in color-what looks skin tone on me might not on someone else. Especially with a skirt, where you go straight from your leg to the shoe-if it’s too dark or light it could look funny.
I know for theater stuff I like to have my character shoes in nude and black, that way I can cover almost any situation without having to go out and buy a new pair of shoes. . .
At this point I’m sort of down to sneakers, dansko clogs in oxblood and black, and a pair of dansko black summer sandals. I have other shoes, but these are what I come back to for foot support and comfort. I was thinking yesterday (when I wore a pair of brown heels I had that wound up hurting my toes by the end of the day) that I do need to add at least one pair of GOOD heels-maybe instead of the black I was thinking of I should go with something “nude”.. . . .
I wear all kinds of shoe colors, but nude generally looks weird on me because I am so pale. I do have a taupe pair of heels that are the right color for me and they look cute. 😉
Question for you, Rebecca: What kind of top does one wear with a crimson velvet pleated skirt with pink lace at the bottom? I’m struggling with this!
Jenn, Does this mean that you are blonde? I had always pictured you with dark brown hair (I picture most people, myself included, with dark brown hair).
My daughters are going for a subtle metallic version of their hair color, another good option.

I would say that a pair of nude heels may be a good idea to have around the house. However, I don’t own a pair. I guess that with the right outfit it could work, but I like a little more spice! Anon — you bring up a good point. I should have made it more clear that the nude heels are being shown more for spring.
I like a subtle metallic version of the haircolor for this time of year. And my boots are brown suede.

I think that nude shoes are the way to go…theylengthen the line of the leg and look good with almost any shade of dress. But you have to shop around to find the right shade for your skin tone.
uhh, I thought I had commented on this thread a while ago-my hair is dark brown, almost black. I guess I really should get around to posting a picture of me on my blog. . . .
That is the easiest — black and nude. Just like your theatre shoes!
