Hey ladies, as long as you’re here, would you consider popping over to answer a riveting question?
Since I read Crystal’s Works-For-Me-Wednesday post last week, I’ve been considering the issue of blog envy, specifically in the area of traffic. You see, my particular personality type REALLY likes to be popular.
But, then there’s this little voice in my head asking me, “are you willing to stay small, in order to be personal?”
Yes, I am.
When I keep my focus on why I do this, the people I am meeting, and all the things about what to wear that I still want to say; well, I am quite content.
It’s hard on the Internet not to judge how you are doing by how many hits you get, how many comments, etc. That’s why so many teens get sucked into being immodest online or doing things that they would never do in person– because the feeling of approval and wanting to be approved of is so strong.
It’s definintely the right path for us to realize why we do what we do, and to do it for reasons other than a quest for popularity.

My blog envy problem comes from all the cool things that I see others doing with banners and sidebars and everything. Wish I knew how to do all that fancy stuff.
However, I am totally oblivious to my blog traffic. I don’t have a hit counter, and I rarely get any commenters, but I know a lot more people just read it. That’s fine with me, but I do wish people would make themselves known. It makes me feel uncomfortable and self-conscious to think people are lurking. But I have no control over that either…oh well.
I struggle with this, too — especially when my blog stats show several views of a topic but no comments. That makes me wonder if there was something wrong with what I wrote. 🙂 But I have to remind myself that I don’t comment on every single thing I read, either, though I do try to comment often. And I have to remind myself that I committed this to the Lord for Him to use, not for me to “become known” or make a name for myself in the blogosphere.
HA! I understand. I love people commenting on my blog, and so I always comment on others…and then wonder why they dont’ comment on mine. LOL. It’ sjust a cycle…but I’m ok with it!
Actually what annoys me the most is lots of my friends and family members read and don’t post anonymous (and then signing) even though I tell them they can….because I KNOW they read it daily! lol

Rebecca, that is so true. I’ve scaled back on how many things I partcipate in online, because I realized that I wasn’t writing the things that I wanted to write anymore.
I have to keep this in mind, because my blog has verrrry loooow traffic. Which is fine by me. I’d rather have a few nice posters than lots of people where some might be nasty! Well, I honestly don’t know how many people I have. I’m only going by the fact I only get a few comments.
I also have had blog envy, but mostly with blog gadgets/polls, calendars, ect. I think I have realized that content ismore important than visual appeal. I am so happy that my blog is “pretty on the inside”, lol.
Great thoughts. I had missed that post you mentioned for last week, so I checked it out, too. Great advice there, but I agree with you, that while I love getting new readers, it honestly is more important to me that I am writing and connecting and encouraging others.
I used to have blog envy when I saw the cute designs that other bloggers had. Then I fixed that by having Susie with BlueBird Designs spruce up my blog with pictures that my husband took during our Ireland wedding. 🙂
I think we all like getting comments…the more the merrier…but I think you’re right, being personal is even more important.
When it comes to blogging, I like to share what I learn along the way with others. Today I’ve posted a WFMW linking within comments tip. I was surprised when a blogger said I must be confident to be willing to share my secrets. I never thought of it that way. I just like to learn and pass that knowledge on to others.

HA, Im pretty envious too sometimes. Mostly of nice templates! If you looka t mine it is the basic template, because i cant find one already made that I like, and is free. And I am not a programmer. My husband is, but he has other things to do.
I want a cool template too!!
