The Magic Knickers

Regarding a post which formerly appeared on A Dress A Day blog:

Melanie didn’t agree with my opinion on the (blue) dress in question. I said, “I love everything about the runway one EXCEPT that half of her bosoms are exposed”. But I don’t mind. She did it without being disagreeable

Update: after Wendy’s comment, I think I like these better.

  1. Hi Rebecca,

The links aren’t working for me today, but I have to say, for many years my magic knickers were Spanx Power Panties. And they wore for 4- 5 years, so although pricey, the cost per wear is pretty darned good. They are still in my wardrobe, and are wearable despite the change in my pant size from a 10 to a 0.

As a complete aside, I had low back surgery 4 years ago, and the brace gave me dreadful sores no matter what I did. After a couple of months my orthopaedist suggested I buy low rise pants and a wide belt and do the belt up really tightly. At the time I had more belly, and my vanity was offended at the idea of flab hanging over my pants. My physiotherapist suggested I try my Spanx. They were outstanding! I had enough support and mobility to get moving without opening raw sores, and they were comfortable! So my investment in magic knickers really paid off!

    Cheers,

    Wendy

    P.S. Have a wonderful 4th of July!

  2. Thanks for sharing, Wendy!

(I will see if I can get the links fixed before I head out thrifting.:)

I have flexees, but I really only wear them occasionally. Although, this last winter I found myself wearing the long ones for long underwear more than I care to, like when my jeans were fresh from the laundry.

  3. Okay……I just have to ask, what about the thong? I don’t own one, but wouldn’t they be more comfy-ish? Less squishing it all in?

  4. Hi Rebecca,

Oh, I hear you about the whole laundry issue! I sometimes wear my Spanx under jeans in the winter for warmth as well.

I ended up wearing them to a memorial mass last evening. I had a lovely pair of off white dress pants altered down a couple of sizes this spring, and although they are lined and still a bit too big in the waist, a quick check of the full length mirror showed more derriere flaws than my swim suit! Quick change of underwear, and you’d never know it. Yay for undergarments!

    Cheers,

    Wendy

  5. Jody, you’re right about the squishy feeling, but I think Wendy answered your question about the thong. Personally, I would just feel naked. Nothing’s grosser than wondering if someone is wearing underwear. Give me VPL anyday!

  6. Hi Jody,

The thong — well, some people swear by ’em. Personally, I like having my butt covered, so to speak, rather than the feeling of something between my cheeks. I have one pair of “almost thong” underwear of microfibre (I’m willing to try new things), but I much prefer other options.

The Spanx Power Panties are a bit like wearing sueded pantihose — they continue down to just above the knee. I don’t find they have the same “squashed in” feeling as other body slimmers I’ve tried on in stores.

But I think it’s best to find what works for you, and stick with it!
