Frugal Maternity Clothes

In addition to the usual suspects – hand-me-downs, garage sales, etc. – one sort of unusual technique worked really well for me, back in the day:

Shopping the clearance in women’s plus-size stores.

Typically when I enter these kind of stores (Lane Bryant was always my favorite), there’s the awkward moment until I assure the conscientious sales staff that I realize I am in a plus-size store and I am there intentionally.

What women’s plus-sized stores do you recommend?

BTW, Crystal of Biblical Womanhood had her baby.  If you pop on over there to congratulate her and view pictures, you will find more Frugal Friday inspiration.  Also, take a look at this Living Fence – I have wanted one of these for years.

  1. I have had more luck at Avenue recently than Lane Bryant. I got a lovely and very versatile black wrap waist dress w/tiny white polka dots. I think it was around $40. They have good Vneck t-shirts too, in a longer tunic style.

I got a few good deals at JCP too, although their sales are not as good in the plus size as they are in the other departments. But I am looking for actual plus size, not (temporary) plus/maternity size.

With all the cute babydoll tops out there, many people wouldn’t even need a plus size. Almost makes me wish I were pg again. But not really. 🙂

  2. I have heard wonderful things about Avenue, but they closed here.

Do you ever find anything at Sears? It seems like that is a good option as well.

Your dress sounds lovely. Perhaps your honey would shoot you and you could show us for the RFFRP event.

  3. Old Navy usually has cute stylish plus sized clothing that is reasonably priced. Although not entirely on topic, although it is in a way, cute and reasonably priced maternity clothes can be found at Target, Old Navy, Walmart (Walmart online has a better selection), Motherhood Maternity has great sales (I got two pairs of maternity Bermuda shorts for $9.99 each). There are also a whole slew of maternity resale shops in my area as well as Goodwill.

    Hope that helps!
