How to Wear Brown and Red Without Looking Like a Blood Clot

I can think of two, maybe three, ways to wear brown and red together without looking like a blood clot:

  1. With khaki, which is actually a tint of brown.
  2. With white.
  3. Maybe with pink, the tint of red.
  4. Never alone with black.
  5. Okay, also in a print with other brights such as apple green, hot pink, or turquoise.
  6. For the extreme outdoors person only: with camo.

If you’re daring enough to try it with solid color separates, I do advise using the 60/30/10 rule and keeping either the red or the brown the 10% accent.

It kinda reminds me of the color scheme of this blog. Have you noticed the picture of me has a brown frame now?

This just in: Take 25% off Gapbody swim styles. Limited time only. In stores and online. Most of what you will find I am not recommending as modest swimwear. But this Gap Essential tankini, if combined with a pair of board shorts, could work and it illustrates the colors I’m talking about here.java-brown-combo-gap-essential-tankini.jpg

  1. My house is decorated in these colors. Since I live in the Southwest, I wanted to resemble an adobe hut (ha ha) and I painted the walls a nice chocolate milk shade of brown. My favorite accents are hot pink, orange and sometimes teal. This suit top matches!

It’s interesting that you mention brown and red together, because it’s a color combination I just recently tried out. I’m not sure I liked it, but I’ll give it another try wearing khaki next time. Thanks for the tip!

  3. I like red and brown, but I do use yellows and other warm colours as accents. Red shirt, black pants and a brown jacket often works, or different shades of brown in the pants and jacket.

  4. Icy, I liked red & brown, too, and I always thought it seemed normal. That is until I started getting the “blood clot” comments from the grow your own peanut gallery. ha ha.

Now I’m more careful to at least throw in enough white to resemble a coke bottle … 🙂

  5. I’m wearing brown slacks and a melon top – does that count? BTW, I quizzed out at Contemporary. Wha’da U think?

  6. Brown slacks and melon sounds like a fool-proof combination. 🙂

I think that’s the third time you’ve taken the quiz and the third different answer. lol

    For sure, you’re never boring!

  7. A blood clot, hee hee! Every time I’m tempted to wear a red shirt with my khakis, I always think of how Target employees dress and change my mind….
