Not a Poll

If I knew how to make one real quick – a poll, that is – I’d throw one in the sidebar right now.  But I’m tired of sitting at the computer, trying to figure stuff out, and my hero will be home momentarily.

So leave your comments here:

  • Do you like the theme Jenn found for me?  (It’s growing on me, I love the pinks, and my girls like it better than the green.)
  • Does it load too slowly for you?
  • Would you like it better if the lips were gone?  (I would.  And I think I can remove them rather easily.)
  • Did I forget to add back in anything important?  For some reason the links didn’t immediately transfer over, so it took a little bit of doing to get them to show up.
  • Does anybody have a clue how to get the plugins to work again?

I’m going to try to leave it alone long enough to get some feedback.  What do you think?

  1. Sorry, I don’t like the lips or the mannequin! The colors, fonts & layout are nice though. I didn’t get to see the green one; the old one was blue, right?

  2. The colors are perfect. The lips are not “you” — you never wear lipstick. The mannequin is just — scary. Keep trying!

  3. Love the new site, simple use of colours yet stunning. Not too pink either, the coral colour in the background is lovely. The idea of the lips as a feature is good, but I’d go with something else, perhaps some sunnies, or a shoe? It loads very quickly for me.

    Great makeover for your site!

  4. I love the colors. I’m surprised it loads quickly for me, it hasn’t been before – I thought it was me.
I like that I see the obvious place to email you – the envelope at the top – I was once looking to do that and couldn’t find any way.

I suppose the Scarlett Johanson type at the top right is supposed to be where your picture goes?
I’m alienated by Scarlett Johanson. 🙂 When I was looking originally for something about dressing with dignity I probably would have passed on if I saw the sultry picture.

I like the lipstick kiss better than you do. Eventually I might even have interpreted it as a kiss of peace. 🙂 Something or other symbolic would be good there. I always wondered about paper dolls since each one is connected by the hand to the other and each is in the space between her peers and it is a fashion lab kind of toy.

  5. The colors are great! I really, really love them! They are fun, yet easy on the eyes! The lipstick kiss is okay. But mixed with the oversized sunglasses wearin’ woman with the sultry look on her face, I’m not sure that’s exactly you. (You are fashionable, yet exude gracefulness at the same time. Not something sunglasses chicky portrays.) The lips alone would be okay though, I think. It does take longer for me to load than before, but I can deal with that. I love, love, love the colors though. Great work!

PS. LOVE Vildy’s idea of the paperdolls. You could play around with the idea…. like dolls holding hands, and then one kind of in the middle not holding the others’ hands or something.

  6. This is super helpful! Thanks to everyone! ( Especially Jenn for finding this template. Now if I win her contest … )

I agree, the colors are perfect! The black writing on white is good, as is the layout. (It feels somehow as if I have more room for important things.)

Now, you that like the lips don’t feel bad, but Beth is my sister and she’s absolutely right – I never wear lipstick. But I have an idea that I like, and I think I can do it. If I can’t do that and I can figure out how to do the paperdoll thing, I do really like that idea too.

The space with the mannequin? I guess I had been thinking I could possibly use that somehow for content: either advertising or something about me or ? Seems large for a picture, but I also had a thought of having a picture and a mirror.

I wonder what it was about the other one that was loading slowly? But not bad enough to find out. BTW, Jennifer, the previous one showed up a cool muted green in my browser.

  7. I love the colors but have to agree with some of the other comments, the big oversize lips and sunglasses are not what I see for you?? Keep everything except for the big photo. Maybe an abstract drawing of a woman wearing cloting?? Like those silhouette pictures of fancy ladies? I have an image in my head but I don’t think I am describing it right!! Do you know what I mean? I am sure there are some images that are public domain!!!

  8. Hey Rebecca– good use of having a “person” featured. It does tend to draw attention to the topic. It does look like it compliments you better– though you’re right about the lips.

Ever try the Democracy plugin? It can put the voting module on my site in the sidebar or in a post.

    Does this theme support widgets?

    What plugins are broken?

  9. Well, what more can I say? I agree with what’s already been said! I particularly don’t like the lady…If I didn’t already know your blog, I would skip right over it because of her.

I LOVE the new layout though! Very fresh and pleasing to the eye. And the colors are just yummy!

  10. MIn – I have never heard of the democracy plugin. I like the idea, though.

This theme did not specify supporting widgets. This is all I know about it:

    beauty-bling-10

(you’ll probably have to hit “test run” to see it)

Yesterday I didn’t see the subscribe to comments plugin, but now I see that it’s working. So the only one I don’t see is the related posts. But I think I remember now what I need to do to fix it. And it’s simple. YAY!

  11. He hee. I kept trying to get it to work, even after it was working, because it came up ‘no related posts’ on this one and I had never seen that before. So it was easy.

And about the colors of the other one, I stopped by a friend’s house this morning and she also said it was blue. Which shouldn’t have come as a surprise, because I now see that the documentation said it was blue-grey, which I had always read “blue-green”! If I had known it was blue, I promise I would have changed sooner!

My friend said something about it being blue just wasn’t right. And she’s right.

    LOL

  12. Oh good! I am not the only one to say it…The chick in the corner just isn’t you! LOL I don’t care for the lipstick myself but it is really the sultry queen that is the major distraction. The color scheme is much much better! Yeah for pink!

  13. I, too, am not fussy on lipstick image, nor the photo.

I love the blog flush left, because it is definitely what I come to read. Flush left makes that easy. I think the icons for home, comments, and email are wonderful (although they all show “home” when I scroll my cursor over them.) But the comments are in a bit too small a font for my eyes.

    Cheers!

  14. Yes, the related posts thing is kinda ugly. I played around with the placement and this was the best I could get it. In the previous location (below the comments link) it spoiled the top of the post below.

A couple of thoughts, if I could figure out how to do them”

    1) change the bullet to a star or a heart?
    2) put a background on them
    3) have them just show up when you hit the read more arrow

I’m open to suggestions. I don’t know how much effort I’ll put into it just yet, though, because this week I’m supposed to be working on my sidebar and I’m still trying to deal with the header pictures. And keep posting, of course. 🙂
