Buying Multiples

At the end of February we often find ridiculously low prices on clearance. And ask ourselves, “how many of these should I get?” Hot Off the Sales Rack posted recently on that topic, which post came to mind Friday afternoon as I was combing the clearance racks.

For some odd reason manufacturers tend to put collections together so they look good on the rack, rather than on a variety of people. The net effect is this: if you find something in a grouping that works for you, the rest of the grouping is likely to work also. Conversely, I found a really cute shirt in four colors, none of which I can wear.

I agree with SRR:

“it’s perfectly fine to buy duplicates of basics”

Whether in two different colors (if they are available) or even two of the exact same thing, if it’s cheap and you will use it, why not?  SRR bought two camis for $1 each, I can think of lots of colors it would make sense to have two of: white, gray, black, muted blue, brown, pink, and on and on.

Ideally in buying two of the same piece, however, one would be a neutral color and the other would be your signature color.

And they’d be so cheap as to be almost free. Hey, it could happen!
