Fashion Lab: Should I Keep It?

Cast your vote: Should I keep it?

  1. If fit were the only consideration, this jacket would be a keeper. It fits flawlessly with or without a belt. The problem? (Those of you who see the description in your browser already know.) It’s polyester! (Someday I’ll do an entire post on the evils of wearing polyester clothing, including at least one you’ve probably never thought of.)
  2. The print in this blouse is perfectly in scale with my features and, when combined with charcoal gray, the colors are fine. The problem, again, is the fabric. And individual style idiom. Can you see me in leopard?
  3. These jeans reminded me of the ones pictured back here, and I found them for $8 yesterday at Goodwill, on the boutique side. I’m not really considering biffing them.
  4. When I pictured these shoes back here Anonymous said, “your shoes kill an otherwise chic ensemble”. I love these shoes! Look at the shapely heels! Help me out here, ladies, are they totally tacky?
  5. One more thing, as long as we’re talking about this outfit, would you recommend wearing this together? On a Casual Friday, out to Thai, with a bunch of hero’s co-workers?

Now, if you’ve been closet-cleaning and would like us to vote on your items as well, you may send me a link to a post and I will add it to this post. Oh, and, of course, I will come over and give you what help I can.

  1. the jeans look great! the shirt is nice too, but i think really needs to be untucked because of the cut of the jeans. however, the shoes, though cute, are all wrong for the outfit. i vote for cute flats.

  2. I think the shoes look way cuter here than the do in the other post. In the other post your hose were so dark that you couldn’t see the details of the straps etc.

Somehow this outfit just doesn’t seem like “you” to me. Then again, since I only know you from this blog, I could be wrong.

  3. This looks really cute, but not “you” at all. Leopard? I think not. The skinny jeans are very nice – keep them. Polyester? Not for Rebecca. The shoes look cute turned sideways, but I agree they looked frumpy in the other picture, due to the dark hose. They are kind of “embellished” for you.

  4. your blog is the BEST to come to and get lost in. the links go everywhere, and it’s dizzyingly comforting to just see where you end up…. sigh…

i have no idea – i thought YOU were the one to tell ME where to wear any given outfit!

i could never pull off the shoes, myself, but i like them on you.

  5. You see I *knew* the skinny jeans would work for you!!!! The dark wash is quite classy (wait till you tuck them into boots!). The shoes are fabulous. Funky. In a Fleuvog kind of a way. This would absolutely work for the situation you described. I’d wear it in a heartbeat.

I, too, am not big on animal prints, but I have one in my wardrobe. (It is also a synthetic blend.) Peeking out from behind a blazer it’s fine. I wouldn’t wear it all on its own.

For fun you could also consider leaving the shirt tucked in, and trying a hipster belt over the jeans. Another detail to peek out from behind the blazer.

Oh — and I haven’t ventured into my wardrobe to do any more closet cleaning lately.

  6. Rebecca, you have such a cute shape that everything looks good on you, but I am a huge NOT fan of skinny jeans. Have you ever seen the show what not to wear? (I am sure you have!) Well, the British version is way better (although I don’t get it anymore on my cable!) and the books they right are brilliant and funny. (buy or borrow from library…so worth it) and they strongly say, and I strongly agree, that skinny jeans should never have come back in. Boot cut is the way to go, much more flattering on the body and makes for a long lean look. Those shoes are cute and would great peeking out from a pair of wide legged trousers. As for the polyester jacket, as long as it looks cute, who cares what it is made of!! Not crazy about the leopard, but again…everything looks good on you!

    Whew…that was a long one!!

  7. I love the jeans on you. I love the leopard print shirt – but it immediately looked puzzlingly wrong for you. To me, that’s not you. I like the shoes but the bulbous looking toe box doesn’t look right to me for that outfit. I see them as going better with either a punkier look or a 40’s retro dress where they would be horribly costumey. And polyester? I think it depends on how matte it is and whether it sparkles in strong light. 😉 I used to shun all polyester but have now come to like it (gasp). Though I can’t stand the ones that “sparkle.”

LOL! Well I’m sure Angie hasn’t thought about it quite from the perspective I have. That is so funny!

The other problem with the jacket is that it is UNLINED polyester.

To all of you: Thanks so much for playing! This was definitely fun!

I’ll decide later today, probably, about the jacket and the shirt, but I’m so happy you like the shoes!! Honestly, I retired them for about a year, for being out of style, but then I decided I didn’t care; I like them anyway!

  9. The outfit is cute. The shoes, to me, don’t “make” that outfit – in fact, lovely elegant flats would look better. As far as the jacket and blouse – well, if the fabric really bothers you, don’t keep them. Bless someone else with them. I find that if I don’t care for a fabric in an article of clothing, no matter how well it fits, I will not wear it…at least not wear it happily!

  10. I think you look terrific, Rebecca! Keep it all if you love it. If you hate any part of it, then dump that piece. You’ve got such a cute figure that you can get away with wearing those skinny jeans.

    Good post!

  11. I think the individual pieces work together, but the outfit would work even better with a wide black belt for the jeans.
