As part of my new blogging system, I am trying to reuse and re-write some early material. I have been writing this blog for over 8 years now!
Perhaps it was growing up visually in the 1960s, more likely it is a personality thing, but I have always favored the analogous color harmony. Blue and green, pink and peach, navy and lavender; these are some of my favorites. I love them in homes! While I recognize that monochromatic is a good look for me, it feels boring; when I’m not wearing my typical personal coloring based palette, I gravitate toward colors next to each other on the color wheel. And, now that I am discovering a need for more color and less grayness, the analogous color schemes are a major wardrobe strategy for me, especially in everyday clothes.
Last spring (that would have been 2009), it was navy and grass green. For summer, I combined yellow and coral. As we enter fall, I’m thinking alot about purple; today, in the opening hours of 2014, I am wearing an intense, warm purple with a maybe-too-dark navy.

What are your favorite color harmonies: monochromatic, analogous, complementary or something more unique? Any new favorite color combos? Be sure and check out the comments, from this posts previous run, there are some great color combo suggestions!
This year I am loving teal. For now I’m mostly pairing it with gray and black.
my favourite colour combos are 2/3 triad plus neutral – so green and purple plus either black or navy. Red and Blue with white (oldie but a goodie), purple and red with brown.
Teal! Love it! My daughter got a super cute pair of teal shoes (at PayLess). Welcome to the blog, Gail!
Imogen, I was counting on you to leave a comment which would stretch me! 😉
Rebecca, Can you send me to a post defining/describing 2/3 triad?

Taupe and pale blue; charcoal gray and pink, ecru and bitter chocolate; caramel and ecru.
I used to wear mostly denim-plus-anything. (mostly many shades of red. ) Lately I’ve discovered that I really look best in a neutral, monochromatic palette. So I end up in black and gray, or black and black, sometimes with highlights of white. But when I need a little color, I also look good in blue and brown, or green and brown.
I used to really enjoy the high contrast of opposite brights paired together. Right now, they feel too super-hero for me though, and I prefer something a little calmer. I really like analogous color pairings around me, but am still working out how I like them in clothing that I wear…
Right now, much of the time I’m wearing one bright color with neutrals (black, gray and white at the moment) – and that combo makes me the happiest.
Any shade of purple with peach compliments my light skin, and I’ve also been wearing cream and black because the contrast is dramatic but cream is so much beter for me than white.
Amiable – love the use of super-hero as descriptor! Lol, I totally know what you mean 🙂
Tia – I agree cream and black is a great businessy color combo for you! Especially sets off jewelry. I have recently been musing on that particular color pairing for myself. Still working out some things:
1- is black still too heavy for me, even when paired with cream?
2- does cream complicate my wardrobe, given that white (at least as an accent) is a staple?
