Resolved: to abstain from purchasing any and all garments with features which I actively dislike.
For example:
- V-necks
- Hoods
- Missing collars
- Three-quarter sleeve shirts
- Three-quarter sleeve pants
- Shirts too short (thanks Amiable!)

I may add to this list as time goes on. Some of these are so well-represented in otherwise suitable garments as to be a perennial temptation. I have enough resources (time, access to cheap stores, a little bit of personal money with which to enhance my smallish budget) that I can choose not to compromise.
You should not take this as commentary on whether or not you should wear these looks; instead, you should decide for yourself. What’s on your list?
Yes – me too!
I need to avoid garments with:
– tight necks
– too short length (too short a body on shirts often gets me), but pants too short are also on this list
– binding waistbands
– very much pattern (I prefer solids, but often fall for patterns, then don’t wear them)
– yellow (my worst color, I like it, but CANNOT wear it without looking seriously ill)
I just realized yesterday that solid long-sleeved tshirts are on that list. I can wear solid tanks or short-sleeve t’s, if they are fitted properly, but a plain long-sleeved t is just too frumpy by itself and I am too warm-blooded to layer them.
I wouldn’t ban solids alltogether because one always needs a base layer, but I definitely feel like I need more prints in my life. Solids are easier to find, but I don’t enjoy wearing just solids.
V-necks, on the other hand, would be on my to-buy list.
Oh, Amy, me too on the too short shirts! I keep thinking we are gonna get into higher-waisted pants and then it won’t be as much of an issue, but that change is developing REALLY slowly. I wore that cute new Pepsi t-shirt recently and it is really short for the way it should work with the other pieces in my wardrobe. I am considering putting a skirt on it and making it a dress; otherwise it will have to go (even though it is a very flattering color).
Your Majesty – good job noticing that about solid long sleeves; it seems like the most basic things are the ones it is hardest to remember don’t work.
OTOH, sometimes more basic is hard to have enough of. Thinking about solid longsleeve tees, I realize that, in the right fabric, they are a good layering piece for me – I run cold and like a thermal or 1x rib under a flannel shirt – but my wardrobe would work better and my life would be infinitely easier if I just bought all white instead of whatever colors I can find (that I wear) at the thrift store! I might have to spend some real money 😉
