You know that sticking point in your sit-up? The one where you think you are not going to make it? That is the point in the fashion cycle at which I find myself: feeling frumpy, not wanting to wear what is in my closet OR what is in the stores.
While I realize I need to do some organizing, and probably some styling, within my wardrobe, I also wonder whether I can just buy one item that would somehow neutralize that frumpy feeling.
What would it be?
Some possible candidates: a great pair of jeans,an amazing pair of boots,or a new coat.
Or how about a new haircut?
For me, I don’t think that is it. I don’t think my hair is frumpy. I need a whole new uniform template.
Suggestions?
Maybe a change in silhouette? For me, that was switching (after holding out for years) from bootcut jeans to skinnies. It apparently makes me look like a recent high school grad, despite the utter lack of neon lace and chiffon in my wardrobe.
I found this exercise helpful in the extreme:

Very easy for me to find inspirational pieces but hard to find aspirational styles (total looks).
Analyzing, though, I saw a certain preference for streamlined.
And then I saw this photo
essay where Tom Ford restyles a group of men.

The guy first pictured on the right, master builder of empires. 😀 Saw that outfit – that coat!!! –
and wanted to toss out everything I have and just wear this. 😀 Relaxed and In Control. Both!
Chrs – I think that is, if not the exact antidote, the direction I am going in looking for a solution. I have been in skinnies and I don’t think I do the boxy top look well, so I am thinking about maybe getting a couple of fit n flare dresses.
But I probably should do the pin board project that Vildy linked to. Especially since I just joined Pinterest and haven’t actually done anything with it. The process is more or less like the research for costuming a show — and I am the character!
And, Vildy, I heart the white one!
