New Glasses 2011

(New glasses pictured in post, old still visible in profile picture.) Unless you have seen me in person in the last couple years, you don’t know that I have new glasses. Well, since I got them in 2011, they are no longer new. And alot of people who have seen me in person inexplicably did not notice that I got new glasses DESPITE the fact that the glasses I am now wearing are approximately twice as big as my old ones. I still chuckle when I remember the puzzled response of several friends and relatives when I called attention to my new glasses, “oh yeah, they’re sparkly right there … ?”

Despite the size difference, the color and shape are similar; this probably accounts for people not noticing the difference. Because my hair and skin are both very light and my eyes are dark, it is important to me to support my contrast level by emphasizing my brown eyes with brown frames.

My frugal strategy for eyeglasses (since my insurance doesn’t buy them for me): I watch trends carefully for those with a potential longevity and hop on as soon as possible. I waited years, ignoring the ubiquitous rectangle specs, for larger frames to emerge. It was worth the wait!  If I had insurance that paid for a new fashion look every other year, I would be interested in trying on the tortoise cateye specs worn by Amanda Valentine on Project Runway Season 11.

  1. My black and white cateye glasses also come in tortoise. Two ladies in my office got them. We would all laugh when the three of us ended up in a meeting together, waiting for someone to notice that we all had the same specs.

  2. Lol. Thanks for the warning! When, sometime in the distant future, I need new glasses, I may seriously go to the place here in town with a policy of only selling a frame once. It shouldn’t bother me, and I know I would just laugh about it if I were actually in that situation, but I really prefer to be a little bit more unique. And usually manage it! 😉
