If you’ve followed my wardrobe conversations for any period of time, you have no doubt heard me talk about my Chacos (pictured here). After a couple of years of online peer pressure, I have reached the conclusion that no dressy casual sandals can substitute for an everyday leisure shoe – and with my lifestyle, that’s what I need. And no summer athletic shoe is more elegant than Chaco.
Learning that Chaco was recently purchased by Wolverine ramped up the urgency for me. I needed to buy a new pair this year! (My old ones have served 7 full summers already and, while they aren’t worn out, shoes were much heavier looking 8 years ago than what is flattering on me.)
So, for an anniversary gift, my hero bought me these:
Chaco – ZX/2 Unaweep (Multi Brown) – Footwear
Those are good looking sandals! Do they have any arch support? I’m ready to retire my Tevas after 10+ years of good service. They haven’t gotten much wear, but they’re not as cute as Chacos. Happy anniversary!
Actually, when I bought my first pair I had to buy men’s because the women’s had too much arch support. These are women’s and they are perfect. There are only a few stores left in town that have them and the color selection is better online. I found mine at “the hippy shoe store at the Valley Mall”.
Mountain Gear on Division has a few left and, surprisingly, they had about 8 pairs of men’s size 14s – for $49! My hero is close to needing to retire his Tevas too, so he went ahead and got a pair. Unfortunately, I didn’t get as good a deal.
Hey – hope to see you soon! Say hi to N and give her a hug for me! 🙂
You know, I still wear my Chacos too. (Not everyday – my lifestyle doesn’t call for it – but when I’m taking the dog for a walk, yard work, light yikes, painting, or going to the beach, they are DEFINITELY my go-to shoe.) Mine are the classic wide-strapped style without a toe loop (these in a rusty orange color, and I’ve had them since 2002 with no signs of wearing out.
Have to say I’d never put that sandal and the word ‘elegant’ into the same sentence! Comfortable they may be, but elegant they ain’t. 😉
I think it’s a geographic thing: sport sandals being essential. You have to admit (well, maybe you don’t), though, they’re head and shoulders better-looking than a Teva or a Keen!
My favourite sandals may not pass Imogen’s ‘elegant’ test, either:

But I do intend to wear them tonight to a ‘casual’ party with this skirt:

A coordinating square-neck tee, and sage green cotton jacket.
The sandals really do work for most of my summertime life at the moment–reasonably pretty, and comfortable enough to walk significant distances over all the kinds of terrain I encounter on a normal day of my not-normal life.
Well, for what it’s worth, they pass mine! 🙂
Thanks! 🙂 They’re actually my second purchase of exactly the same upper/sole combination. Although last year’s are bronze with faux-topaz jewels on the main strap.
Between a knee that does NOT like heels (even little ones, even for short periods), and a job where I routinely walk across a UNESCO World Heritage Site (Canterbury Cathedral), comfort is paramount.
I love my shoes. But my feet, and my terrain, remind me that even with a relatively high-level education job for the Church, the FIRST purpose a shoe serves is to be kind to your feet, and to make walking easier and safer.
I do realize that some women find heels more comfortable than flats (although I don’t buy that 4″ or higher heels are better for ANYBODY). And fine for them. But there are those of us who for various reasons need good supportive and sometimes very protective lower shoes. Pretty, when we can find it, is a bonus.

Casual sandals you love are great and 7 yeasrs breaks my own record (Arche)! I can SEE the arch support. Really like the macramé type detail on your new pair!
