Skirt: begged from mom, who bought it for $1 at Value Village. It’s double layers of ivory cotton, with metallic looking embroidery.
Metallic-look cowboy boots: bought cheap somewhere locally (these same boots have shown up everywhere from Grocery Outlet to Goodwill). They remind us of when this child was little and had the little pink fringed cowboy boots every year. Why don’t they still make those, and in adult sizes?
Anyway, this chicadee is ultra-frugal, very sporty, and always in need of help putting outfits together. Any creative thoughts for on top?
I would go for something simple and fitted (but not tight of course). Maybe a chocolate brown cap sleeve knit shirt with a scoop neck. A simple tank top could work if she considers that modest. But the fullness of the skirt definitely speaks to me that the shirt needs to be tailored.
Actually, I just looked at a larger version of the picture and am not sure the color I suggested is right, but I think the style would still work. It should be simple so the skirt and boots can shine!
I immediately thought of something with ruffles in the front, topped with a fitted denim jacket.
Layered ribbed tanks I think would be really cute with a big pendant necklace? eh? eh?
I would like a checked shirt. That’s your daughter, right? For a minute I thought
you’d gone round the bend. 🙂
Look at Sal’s cowgirl outfits – they’re fabulous. Also she mentions the Sundance catalog as inspiration.

I like the layered tank idea. Or a leopard-print shirt. or the right scale plaid shirt, knotted at or just above the waist. You can either keep the top simple or do something wild- in-between will not look great.
What is with the “not tight of course”? 🙂
We were talking about this last night and the great thing is the skirt and boots together can really go alot of times and places. Last night she was wearing an army green tank with an ivory crochet trim cami under it, which fits what several of you said and the colors would go great.
LOL – dd wasn’t too happy when she discovered I had cropped out what she was wearing on top when we took the picture: a white tee shirt. It was the only thing that had the shape she needs with this, to hide the fact that the skirt is high waisted. She’s not ready for that yet.
Fun! Thanks for your suggestions. 🙂
