It snowed today. Most of the day. And it’s spring break here, so no regular activities; the irregular activities we had thought of didn’t work out. So, in an effort to break the grip of lethargy, I decided to clean out my drawers, switch over to spring, and take inventory of what I need.
Cleaning out my drawers was the easy part. Actually, switching over to spring took nearly no effort whatsoever; the trouble is I have almost no spring clothes. What I’m really hurting for is “just get dressed” stuff. And inspiration.
What are you wearing around the house this spring? Or whatever time of year it’s 50 and raining where you live. 😉
On the cooler days of autumn, I’m wearing a skirt with leggings and ballet flats, then a long sleeved fine merino wool knit top and a cardigan if necessary.
Just around the house, as in lounging around/cleaning up/relaxing/emailing/etc? Well, in the spring I wear my summer outfits + lightweight 3/4 sleeve cardigan . . . my summer hanging around the house uniform: either cute little sundress OR camisole + miniskirt OR cami + short shorts . . . . actually this is my winter/autumn home ensemble too, except in cold weather I switch to a fuzzier sweater or fine-gauge fleece zip-up . . . .
of course if I need to leave the house for work, out to see friends, shopping etc. then I change into either my “going out clothes” or “work clothes’ — but that’s for another post, hahaha — today in Seoul we had the FIRST sunny/mildly warm day of the year, sooooo glad . . . hang in there, youll be enjoying the lovely Pac. NW spring soon~~
I will be wearing my new jeans … once they’re taken up. 😉 But the fun part is putting away boots and getting out shoes!
(It was a rainy, damp, cool April Fool’s here — not a good day for those shoes!)
I’m experimenting with wearing t-shirts with bolder floral prints instead of just plain–I hope they don’t look too old-ladyish. I really don’t feel like plain solids are me, but I’m not sure what the right alternative is. I’d like to wear something “nicer” than t-shirt and jeans, but it will have to wait until I’m not spending most of the day dripping baby food on it.
50 and raining is cashmere! You wil stil appreciate the soft warmth and it’s light enough not to feel oppressive. I stock up on J. Crew cashmere tees, in bright colours: kelly green, robins’ egg blue, coral/ Pair of jeans or black techno pants and a raincoat.
Where I get stuck is stockings- black opaque looks very wintry and nude is so uptight, and bare legs are not realistic yet… so I wear knee hi light opaque but am not really happy.
Oh Rebecca, I’m in the same boat as you! I have very few spring clothes and I never know what to wear. It seems wrong to wear my woolies and boots, but I’m not ready for bare legs and flats. And I still seem to need a third layer for warmth. So I guess it’s t-shirts and cardigans with jeans, or more recently, yoga type pants as I’ve just had abdominal surgery.
The new Liz Claiborne line at Macy’s seems quite nice and has a lot of pinks, which look so good on you. It’s quite expensive but some of it does seem to be on sale.
Let me know if you come up with the perfect solution. I look forward to reading more comments.
Christine
Today is the first warm day here (south Germany) since like September ! It’s 20 degrees, and last week there had been snow on the ground…
I have tons of spring clothing, but almost nothing fits me now (7th month of pregnancy).
I love the irony of putting away your winter clothes specifically *because* it’s snowing – we had a considerable winter storm here over the weekend, too.
Personally, I definitely need a few more long-sleeved Ts, and I’m working on the shoe situation. But then, we probably still have a few more weeks of days that top out
Ha ha! Woke up today to 4 or 5 inches of accumulated snow! And I got my boots back out (not that I had put them very far away).
Christine nailed it: “It seems wrong to wear my woolies and boots, but I’m not ready for bare legs and flats.” I think we talked about it somewhere here on the blog before, that 50 degrees is too warm for wool. It gets itchy. And Duchesse identified the other piece of the problem: “Where I get stuck is stockings- black opaque looks very wintry and nude is so uptight, and bare legs are not realistic yet…”. My sister has been struggling with that as well. And one more thing, concerning skirts and dresses anyway: they stick to stockings, leggings, etc.
Solutions:
I like Imogen’s skirt + leggings + ballet flats. If you wear skirts for “just get dressed”.
Cashmere! It works for me, I can just put away my turtlenecks and look for some more colorful t-shirts like Duchesse’s.
Skirts for spring need to be lined.
I’d love to hear what people think about print t-shirts, I can’t imagine the Queen of Carrots looking old lady in them.
Christine, I’m going to Macy’s next week. Hope I find something!
Wendy, I think new jeans would probably help me mentally, even though I don’t strictly need them.
Ellem – thanks for the encouragement! We have had some beautiful days, and I actually like the snow.
EV – ah, but at least you got to thaw out in South America. Hope you post more pictures!
Fir the best print tees ever see http://www.suvawear.com, and click on Custom Shirts. You might find them expensive but they last for ever. People try to buy them off my back.
Those are some WOW tees!
It’s 28 degrees and lightly snowing–ugh!–this morning in upstate New York. I am wearing jeans, a long-sleeved t-shirt, and a cashmere cardigan in robin’s egg blue–also a turquoise necklace, which makes me think of summer sun. I think I will hazard to wear clogs, instead of boots! 🙂 I can’t wait until spring is really here.
Color! I think what I need to look for is that cashmere cardi in a color that puts a “spring” in my step. lol. This year I have noticed that all through this early spring I have been craving green, and I love green and blue together. That’s the color direction I’m thinking for spring now.
Have a wonderful day Sheri! At least we know how it all ends up! 😉
Hmmm, 50 and raining…That is winter weather here…Cute jeans and a pretty long sleeved or 3/4 sleeve shirt usually do the trick. Or skirt and tights. I find that’s not as comfortable though, especially when chasing littles.
Yes, you were one of the people I was thinking of when I put in that last sentence. 😉
I was out this morning shopping and found a couple of things, including a short-sleeved cashmere sweater for $9.99. I also found the cord to my daughter’s camera, so hopefully I can get some pictures up this afternoon. 🙂
