I own a million pieces of turquoise jewelry, I love the stone. I however never know the type of clothing especially the tops to wear. My hair is ruby midnight with purple under tones. My eyes are dark blue and my skin naturally has a yellow undertone. When I changed my hair to this dark color friends and family said it looked beautiful on me and made my eyes really stand out. I figured this is the best place to ask this question because I read such great advise to the above question. Thank You to all of you who answered (Judi)
(Ruby midnight = rich auburn black)
My best advice is to wear solid tops in deep, intense colors: black, midnight or royal blue, purple. With dark blue eyes, blues – including turquoise – are natural.
I think what I’m suggesting is that the turquoise is naturally going to harmonize with and flatter your eye color, and a top in a dark color, when combined with the dark hair, will frame the face. It’s going to be a dramatic look!
Alternatively, turquoise is appearing in lots of great prints these days. Depending on your personal style idiom, either a funky kind of ethnic look or a more simply elegant backdrop seem natural to me with turquoise jewelry.
A third option with turquoise is to use its complement, which is orange or brown. White is my favorite hot-weather black substitute. And metallics always look elegant with turquoise.
Okay, readers, Judi was asking for your advice. What tops do you suggest with turquoise jewelry?
Just for fun, here’s some pictures of looks that might work:
Incidentally, while in Italy, we saw LOTS of cute metallic sporty shoes.
I like the idea of monochromity between necklace and top. I imagine turqoise harmonizes with the blue in the eyes, otherwise this would get much more complicated. Aside from turquoise itself, gray? It approximates silver without being gruesomely shiny.
I think turquoise jewelry looks absolutely great on everyone, especially in the summer. Rebecca, I bet turquoise is gorgeous on you! I like it best with shades of brown and olive, but I think that is just because of my coloring (hazel eyes). I don’t hesitate to wear turquoise jewelry with just about anything: shades of blue or green (nice with celery green), coral or pink, yellow, purple, etc.
I just lost one of my favorite turquoise and silver studs. I got them in high school. Must replace . . .
I have quite a few turquoise pieces and I like to wear them with dark colors, such as black, brown, etc. I also have a few pieces of clothing that I didn’t really notice had little bits of turquoise in the print until I matched a peice of turq jewelry with them and it really brought them out. I love me some turq! I hadn’t thought of coupling them with orange before… now that’s a thought!
Chrs – I almost posted a picture of a gray top, but then I thought it was more what would look good on me, with turquoise jewelry, than what would look good on Judi. 😉
Sheri – you could be right. I don’t have any turquoise jewelry and I’m wondering, after your comment, why I don’t. The metal allergy thing? Of course, I don’t have much jewelry at all.
I LOVE the suggestion of wearing it with brown and olive, but again, that’s more me (and you) than it is Judi with her dark hair and blue eyes.
Carrie – wearing turquoise with orange would be pretty intense, but on the right person, in the right season would be really fun. Also, I was just now thinking, there are people who could do turquoise jewelry with red really well too, maybe even Judi.
Thanks everybody for sharing your thoughts. 🙂
I love wearing my turquoise earrings with a black top best. But I think it would be awesome with a coral-colored top.
I agree! Like orange or red, only a little softer. 🙂
Personally, I’d love pairing turquoise accessories with bright pinks (might be overly cutsie…and I just say that b/c pink is one of “my” signuature colors so it is what I want to wear almost all ov my jewlery with.) With dark hair you might get away with a paler pink and then it would be a “turqoise pop” effect rather than a blend of brights.
Hello! Here’s the info re: the open house tomorrow night at the Shade Clothing rep’s house (her name is Tara). I’m sure hoping to make it – the other parties that I have been to have been very fun, and it is neat to try on things you might not have looked at otherwise. 🙂 Give me a call if you decide to go!
I love, love, love turquoise paired with a deep royal purple or aubergine.
I’m late to the party, but I was also thinking dark, rich colors, dark brown, deep olive, midnight navy, and eggplant. I think the colors would be good with dark hair, but of course it will take some trial and error to see if these theories really work. I also like the idea of a deep coral color.
i may not have concluded this was cool quite a few years ago however it is crazy the way in which time changes the method by which you understand many ideas, many thanks for the blog post it happens to be pleasurable to look over some thing smart now and then instead of the general trash mascarading as blogs and forums on the web, cheers
