Men in skirts? Of course not, they’re kilts. Did all of you catch that as being why I wanted that picture of Leon at Creation?
Let me tell you a little about Utilikilts:
- They aren’t cheap. Prices start at $105 (and they charge extra for sizes 38 and up).
- Should you need it, you can ensure that your skirt hangs evenly by purchasing the “beergut cut”.
- They’re washable. And if you smooth out the pleats before air-drying it, there should be no need to iron.
- Eight models are available. The Mocker is their answer to the “tight, uncomfortable, wimpy, and tremendously lame” *twill pants* called dressing up by construction industry professionals all over Eastern Washington.
- According to their web-site, the proper response to “NICE SKIRT!” is “thank you”. Of course.

As Wendy commented:
I am a firm believer that skirts & dresses are cooler on hot days than shorts of any sort.
Are you ready for guys in skirts?
One last thing: Jill (Leon’s wife) was dying to know how I would make writing about a kilt scientific. Tune in tomorrow for a unique Fashion Lab on the heat accumulation/reflection of black clothing versus white.
Back when we were flush, I almost bought Steve a Utilikilt (at his request). We decided he would need to try it on first, and we never made it over to Seattle. I also worked with a woman who wore one (a lesbian who had a very bold personality).
Do you know if they are considered acceptable for business casual in Seattle? You know how big Dug is on shorts and, of course, they are never allowed in the office.
I heard about a guy, a bicyclist, who asked if he could wear shorts to work. The boss told him if he shaved his legs, he could! I don’t know if the boss realized that bicyclists often shave their legs, or if he really thought hairy legs is the reason guys aren’t supposed to wear shorts to work. Anyway, the guy figured he wasn’t long for that job anyway, so he took him up on it. lol
It’s all so restrictive!
Hi, I have three kilts, 2 Utilikilts, 1 traditional. I wear them as often as I can. I love themand son does my wife, and my 17 month old son couldn’t care less. In fact he left the hospital after he was born in a tiny kilt.
I suggest to every man to try one, most will never want to go back to pants!
Thanks, neat post!

I’ve known a few guys who wore tartan-style kilts, but to be honest, they weren’t the most popular or fashionable guys. For me, there’s still a bit of a stigma attached to kilts. However, I really liked the photo of the shirtless guitar player wearing the kilt on the company web site (on the photos page). I don’t think a pair of shorts and pants would have been nearly as sexy.
