Thanks to Dana’s hero, who has the technical know-how to both take the pictures and make them over into a size WordPress will accept. And many thanks to Dana, who both came up with this idea AND was willing to model the dread capris and runners.
Now on to the looks.
- Which shoes do you consider the most lengthening to the legs?
- Are there other combinations here that look balanced anyway?
Which outfit is your favorite?
And, btw, no one is lined up for a fashion lab next week. Any volunteers?
I have no fashion sense, but I do think that the heels are definitely the most lengthening. However, I am not a heels-wearing gal in general, especially for casual wear, so I would be most likely to wear the slides with the pattern on top, which I think look better with the denim than the other pair of pants.
The heels work, and I like the light (white?) shoes. I’m usually a heels girl (I need all the leg lengthening I can get), but I’ve had my eye on some white flats, and after seeing this, I think I’m going to go for them.
Favorite outfit – last 2. And last 3 pics are most lengthening. My favorite with the denim are the black w/embroidery. It’s amazing how much better they look with the denim than the khaki. They really seem to shorten her and drag her down in the khaki. The denim seems to look better in general with a darker shoe, and the black mule worn with a black top might look a little more balanced. Runners and capris is SO hard to pull off, and I tend to shy away since I don’t think I can do it. Fun fashion lab!
I like the denim with the black, flat slides. I think sneakers are too clunky and the heels just don’t work. As for the shorter, beige capris, I like the last picture with the brown strappy heels. Those look like dressier bottoms, so the heels look nice.
I obsess over shoes with capris, and usually go flat, especially with denim. I don’t have any dressier ones.
I could have dragged out shoes for this all night – our fair ‘bex put up all 9 shots I sent her – my ankles look better than I thought they did – and, yes, those are leopard stillettos and the heels are – wait for it – CORK! ha! barganza a la TJ Maxx – I usually wear them with my LONG jeans on casual friday. I am contemp/trad with an affinity for edginess. Those are seriously slutty shoes, so I only wear them when no other skin is showing. No need to channel Anna Nicole at the office.
The white shoes don’t show very well, but they are slip-on driving moc type tennies with a funky suede toe – the main fabric is pale beige eyelet.
Interesting to observe that light-colored shoes are more leg-lengthening. Also, ankle straps or shoes that come up high (like the far right in the last row) cut off the leg. Thanks for modeling!
Hi Ladies,
I frequently follow this blog, although I have never left a comment. But I just had to barge in for this post, because it illustrates my favorite principle of summer leg-lengthening! 🙂
A shoe that has the effect of blending in with your skin-tone –like the white flat, leopard, light green above–is, in my humble opinion, always infinitely more flattering in the summer. I find this to be especially true if you are on the shorter side (like I am) and want to pull off a flat, a chunkier sole/wedge, or a shoe with an ankle strap. It works like a charm.
thanks for the great post!
2 & 7 are my faves. I don’t like the ones that match the pants *and* her legs. It seems like too much of the same color. 2 because of what Polia said, and 7 because the shoes are simple.
First of all, great job Dana! And kudos to your husband, too.
Secondly, I believe I may be jealous of your shoe wardrobe. Those leopard slides — way too much fun!
What everyone else said — heels make the legs look longer. I also wonder if the denim capris could be cuffed up when worn casually with flats — especially since they have that nice wide hem. That might lengthen the legs in a different way.
Favorite outfit: 7 especially the shoes with the capris. Favorite shoes? So hard to say!
Good job, brave Miss Dana! I like the slutty heels best for leg lengthening, but the black patterned slides or white flats are OK with the denim. I think a darker shirt is maybe in order, though. Same thing with the dressier capris. I like the brown sandals in #8 best, but they would work way better with a darker top (a gauzy print w/cami?). I also like #7. #9 breaks up the leg line too much, and the patterned slides are too casual.
Fun! Makes me want to go shoe shopping…
Heels are definitely better when it comes to lengthening the legs, particularly heels that to not go up the front of the foot much or wrap around the ankles. I’m definitely not a fan of the loafers. The sneakers could work when she needs comfy shoes, but I’d try to find socks that end right at the top of the sides of the shoes. The white flats are better, though. Also, if you’re going for that summer casual look, lighter shoe colors are better (though the yellow heels on the second from the bottom row clash with the brown pants).
I do like the color of the denim capris. Dark washes are always more thinning.
And I really the top-most pair of heels 🙂
The heels are definitely the most lengthening. However the white flats are really cute, and probably more functional!
I don’t like the strappy shoes with them for some reason (bottom right picture).
All of them with a heel are good.
I do like the leopard print flat too.

My favorite outfit is the denim capris with the slides. Heels are lengthening, I suppose, but I don’t care for them with capris unless they are the very dressy kind, with a cuff or something, like an Ann Taylor sort of look. I don’t own any like that, myself. I think the slides look best with the casual capris.
I do have to go with the majority on this one. The heels are lengthening…very cute! I just started wearing heels again and boy, do I need practice! The white shoes are my second pick 😉
The brown slide/wedges with the khaki pants are the best bet. The similar colors, slight heel and naked back give the greatest leg lengthening quality.
IMO, the denim capris are too casual with near-stilletos. Maybe with a dressier capri (pinstripes, seersucker, something), it’d look ok, but not with denim.
