Not Your Granny’s Birkenstocks

The other day, when we were talking about Crocs, the subject of Birkenstocks came up. Personally, I have never owned any (backless shoes don’t really work in my idiom, but that’s a different post).

Without further ado I bring you Birkenstocks more stylish than your typical “toeless clog” (or should I begin calling them “peep toe clogs”?):

Birkenstock - Gizeh (Pink Wash Birko-Flor®) - Lifestyle DepartmentsBirkenstock - Gizeh (Black Patent Birko-Flor ) - Lifestyle DepartmentsBirkenstock - Gizeh Exquisite (Star Violet Pearlized Leather) - Women's

Birkenstock Gizeh, pink wash and black patent birko-flor, $73.95. Star violet pearlized leather – more.

Birkenstock - Sparta (Raspberry Nubuck) - Women'sBirkenstock - Sparta (Pearl White Pearlized Leather) - Women's

Birkenstock Sparta raspberry nubuck and pearl white pearlized leather, just over $100. (BTW, Bonnie says she finds Birkenstocks at Ross every summer.)

And if you’re into the ankle-strap look: Birkenstock - Isis (Pacific Blue Nubuck) - Women's

It was actually almost a year ago when I hosted one of the final editions of the Carnivale de Couture and brought up my distaste for our ugly habit of wearing honkin’ toeless clogs. This post shall be my entry to the new Fabulous! Festival, next edition at Individual Chic, where Icy has selected the theme shoes.

To participate, entries may be submitted to blogcarnival.

To view the May 28th Festival, just come back here! Entries will be due May 25th, no theme.

  1. Oh I like the ones that don’t look like Birkenstocks! 😀
The pearlized violet ones that don’t have cork.

  2. Aren’t those cute? Zappos also has them in the pearlized white.

I’m not planning on spending $150 on shoes any time soon, but I’ll definitely be trying to fit Ross into my loop more often!

  3. I wear Birk sandals and there’s nothing like them for comfort. These are pretty, but seem like so much $$ for a flip/flop. I did splurge on my Birks when I was having lots of foot/ankle trouble and they were well worth the $100 at the time. They last.

  4. Forgive me for commenting so much about Birks (and Ross), Rebecca, but it dawned on me that the Birks they had at Ross a couple of weeks ago were these Gizahs in an deep orange color…if anyone wants to try to hunt some down ($12- 19.99, depending on clearance).

  5. I know people say they’re comfortable, and they certainly look it, I just can’t bring myself to try them. Perhaps I’m not brave enought ^_^

  6. I hate to be negative but I was hoping the Birks you were featuring would change my mind about how unattractive I find that line of sandals…then again, I don’t claim to be a fashionista! I have a brand new pair that an aunt passed down and I don’t even find them that comfortable. I need to advertise them on ebay…

It’s neat that there’s such a following, and they’ve been around forever!

  7. These are not my favorite shoe. I think I am too girly-girly to wear these or something. I am glad that they have such a cult following though!
