Flattering and functional, stock up on these current and coming looks with confidence:
- Bermuda shorts, aka short sleeved pants.
- Dresses.
- Feminine sleeves.
- Scoop neck tee-shirts (you won’t see that on anyone else’s Top 5 Trends list!)
- Shoes & bags: shiny, as in patent leather, or silver metallic.
A few bonus thoughts on colors to look for –
- Hues: soft powdery tones such as apricot, raspberry, and robin’s egg blue.
- Neutrals: white, chocolate brown, and solid (as opposed to heather) grays.
- Prints: black and white prints, polka dots.

I did purchase a CUTE navy blue skirt with white polka dots. I’ve been wearing it with a lime green twin set or lime green T. I really want a cute polka dot tote for a summer bag — but not too big. Do you know of one somewhere?
Why would a scoop-neck T not be on someone’s top 5? Just curious?
Jody
Excellent! That skirt will look fresh and stylish for years! And combining green with blue is a great way to avoid clashing (works well for men: never pair a green shirt with green pants, use blue instead).
Not sure where you can find the bag, although it seems I have seen instructions on how to make bags here and there in the blogosphere. Of course, the only one I’ve linked to here is the duct tape one. he hee. If I find one, I will be sure to post it. Maybe another reader has seen one. ?
It just seems like the seriously fashionable don’t really talk about t-shirts. I don’t recall seeing them on any lists. But that is what we wear, isn’t it? The shape of a scoop neck is harmonious with alot of faces, easy to wear as long as it isn’t too low.
Thanks for asking. 🙂
The bag – I have a friend who makes them. She has a website. Let me know if you want it.
The scoop neck. I like these. Have bought 3 already this season. But I still feel the V-neck is more universally flattering. The scoops seems to emphasize the boobage, which I try to avoid. A V, as long as it’s not too low, is very flattering for the boobage. 🙂
Ha! We are a little closer to what your fashion lab will be, dcrmom.
Not having to worry about boobage myself, I generally concern myself with what shapes flatter the face. 😉
If your friend would like, you can send me the website and I will try to post about it. Thanks.
Hey Rebecca,
I found some heeled, casual sandals for my bermudas. They are Borns, open toed, with several medium sized straps and without a heel strap. These work with my idiom!
One question though … they are black, but not jet black … kind of a dark brownish black. Do you think they won’t go with my dark, dark brown bermudas?
Yay Christie that’s awesome!
I think they will go with your brown bermudas. Conventional wisdom now is that there is so much black in today’s browns that black shoes work better. Same with navy. And it makes sense, since it is so hard to match browns.
I’ve been a little concerned about whether my new brown sandals will match my bermudas. If anything, I shouldn’t have bought brown pants, but at least my wedges with the heels are enough lighter in color that they don’t clash.
Sounds like you are in good shape!
I’m withc dcrmom — I tend to find v-necks more flattering for my build. And if the v is low, I’ll layer a cami underneath.
Wendy & dcrmom, where are you finding camis that are high enough cut to actually help hide the boobage (I love that word!)? Pass on the knowledge :]

I have seen polka dot tote bags, not too large, at Claire’s, a mall-type accessories store.
Here’s the bag in white with red but I have also seen white with black and I think white with blue

Hello Rebecca, I think your article is the only other fashion-related one to appear on Problogger’s Top 5 submissions for today! I wrote one on the top 5 ways to define your personal style. Us fashion writers have to stick together! Great post :>

Sadly, Bonnie, my cami advice will not help, as mine are a house brand from a Canadian department store.

Cute red/white polka dot bag at Claire’s. Thanks for the link. I’m interested in the bags that dcrmom’s friend makes too.

Vildy, thanks for the link to the bag.
Bonnie, Icy posted a creative cleavage cover recently:

The camis my daughters like are the basic ones from Aeropostale. They are high enough and long enough, as well. (Link to Aeropostale in my affiliate shopping page.)

I found some cute summer dresses and necklaces at Victoria’s Secret. Apparently it should be popular this summer, at least thats what this article says (link deleted, sorry. RM)
Hi Jen! Thanks for the suggestion. I have also noticed some nice clothes at VS, although I don’t like to have their catalogs come to my house, out of protectiveness for my husband.
I deleted the link because, while the article was fine, there was stuff at that site that I thought was inappropriate for alot of my readers. Sorry.
