Invariably there is something I’m shopping for which seems like it should be easy to find, but isn’t. And then there are the memories of looks past which creep into the subconscious, becoming bigger and more persistent until finally I find myself really searching for the proverbial needle-in-haystack. The short-sleeved, button-front, collared KNIT shirt has become such an item.
In the past couple of years, I have seen precisely one of this style of shirt. Unfortunately neither color option available was flattering. Now every time I see a polo shirt I feel this flash of hope, only to be dashed. Aren’t we tired of polos yet?
What about you? What kinds of items do you think should be easy to find that aren’t?
Two things. I want more of those acrylic knit tops that are like lightweight sweaters and are a tweedy mix of 2 or 3 related colors. I’m sure they were originally inexpensive but now can’t find them anywhere and I look.
I miss the white “sharkskin” knife pleated skirt I had in jr. high. 🙂 I also, when grown up, had several 3 piece suits out of this. One had a blazer jacket, the other safari. I have one pair of pants left from all that and when I tried it on I saw that even though it was lined, you could see the construction details. I like the no-wrinkle feature and the slitheryness. Sort of crisp and fluid at the same time.
They need, I think, to be interlined and not just lined. Interlining is something I used to do frequently when I sewed. Also tacking jacket front facings! I can’t tell you how much time I spend carefully tacking those down these days, catching only a thread and ensuring that it’s not sewn either too loose or too tight. Iron-on facing would ruin the drape.
I found a white thick cotton jacket in a pea coat style that was inexpensive. It wasn’t lined but the fabric didn’t look to need it. Until I tried it on and could just see that I had a light! peach colored top on. I suppose the jacket would be good enough so long as I didn’t wear dark colored tops.
One thing I wish they would tire of and not make so many is peep-toed shoes. Every pair I’ve tried has cut my skin and I’m so tired of seeing them everywhere and it being the only choice whenever a shoe is otherwise cute.
I had that exact same feeling about backless shoes (except for the cutting into my skin part). It’s been such a long cycle of nothing but backless; finally, sling-back sandals are turning up. It’s unfortunate that the choices become so limited like that, I’m afraid the peep-toe thing could be similar (hopefully not quite as long).
For my daughter with the slightly upturned toe, now is the time to stock up!
