Whenever I go out in these, my brocade Converse Chuck Taylors, I receive compliments. Recently someone said it looked like they took the nicest couch fabric and made a pair of Chucks out of them. LOL. (See what they look like with the original laces back here.)
Pictured here are all the Converse that live in our house. Mine. (At 43, I only need one. Strictly speaking, I don’t need any, but somebody had to buy these brocade babies, $20 at TJMaxximus.) Going clockwise, dd2’s everyday shoes. (She’s the supreme frugal princess.) Next, her half of the pair the daughters cooperated on. They do actually wear them. The next pair are dd1’s newest, Converse skate shoes, purchased to replace the aging suede pair, on the other side of her multi-colored pair.
So how many pairs of Chucks do you have? The unofficial average among the ladies’ friends seems to be three.
Well, when I was in highschool I always wanted a pair of converse hightops and never got a pair. . . now that I’m an adult I actual own, well, none.
Hmmm.
It’s interesting. The high tops are what people usually talk about, but the low tops are what everybody actually wears — so much more practical.
When my boys were little (probably when you were in high school), they had low top canvas shoes for wearing in the lake in the summer.
Converse. The original frugal basketball shoe and aqua sock!
Well, I don’t own a single pair. And to be honest, until recently, I didn’t know that people still wore them. Probably b/c everyone here lives in flip flops or sandals year round. I have heard, however, that you can design your own pair at their website! Pretty cool if you ask me…
I can see why you wouldn’t need them where you are. They aren’t terribly good winter shoes here, because of the thin-ish soles.
Here’s the link for the design your own: link
I’ve never had a pair. And until this post, I didn’t want them. But now I’m not so sure… cheap and classic? You have me at hello, Chuck.
I own exactly one, and that’s more than enough.
Maybe it’s my ultra-flat feet talking, but they’re so uncomfortable! I love the look of them, but within an hour or two of putting them on, my feet ache so much I want to sit down. Still looking for the elusive pair of sneakers that’s simple, chic and as comfy as they look…
Danielle ~ I could see you in them, but where you are (like here) they are best for moderate temperatures and dry conditions.
And BQ ~ you are right, they are not for much walking. Kinda like wearing slippers, I can wear them for about a half day being on my feet, or two miles at a stretch. The ladies wear them for everyday street shoes, but not for athletic shoes.
Very cool–a Converse family!
I don’t own any Converses, but I do own 2 pairs of Vans (one pair was something my sister no longer wanted, the other I bought in Vegas when my feet hurted). I also own an assortment of sneakers of different colors. You can never have too many pairs of casual shoes like these–they go with just about anything.
p.s.–TJ Maxximus. Hee!
None. But like Jenn, I coveted the high tops at a certain time in my life.
I saw some brocade keds I almost bought last year, though …
I have never found sneakers to be very comfortable at all, and I always avoid wearing them at all costs. The only ones I ever liked were Vans because they felt like fluffy pillows on my feet! There goes my “comfort and practicality above style” thing again….
On the other hand, these shoes LOOK awesome! Everytime I see them I think about wearing sneakers again for a second-before remembering how uncomfortable I am in them….
Okay, first of all? I knew that you were the coolest fashion lady ever, but to own brocade Chucks takes you to a whole ‘nother level.
Second, and sadly, I own 0. I do own a pair of suede Pumas that never get worn, though.
I own zero, but my oldest has gone through two pair…one brown suede, and one light blue. She loved them, said they were really comfy.
I have the suede low tops in light pink, and the high tops in purplish-pink. Here in Spain most people have the high tops; I am the only person I have seen wearing the low tops… So I guess it depends…
Pink suede!
So you are the trendsetter there. I find regional differences so intriguing. 🙂
I was always a fan of Jack Purcells (the Converse shoe that was originally for tennis, I believe). I went through two pair in high school but haven’t owned any variation of Converse since. I see them sooooo much on the hipsterati in Seattle as well as all the college kids in the neighborhood where I work that I think I’m a little burnt out on them.
I can see that coming. I probably should have mentioned it (the burn out, that is).
When Converse are out, they’re really out, aren’t they?
But Relient K is still wearing them on the cover of their latest disc ( … they won’t stop wearing those silly shoes …; sorry, that’s a line from one of their songs. he hee)
I love Converse! However, because I wear a size 9 they make my feet look much, much longer. I’d feel like Ronald McDonald….Although I really shouldn’t care as long as they look good, right?
Hey, I resemble that remark! Are you calling me Ronald McDonald? Oh, wait a minute, if you mean a men’s size 9 (Converse sizes) you’re calling my daughters Ronald McDonald!
But if they make you have a goofy face, that’s definitely a problem!

Check it out! You are just ahead of the fashion train on this one! Hee Hee!
I totally love the coral floral pair! I just don’t know that I need another.
Although I may have to start hanging around TJMaxx again.
i have one pair of chucks that are metallic gold. i also have a pair of purple diesel sneakers that i love (and you’ll love this, they are normally around $90 and i got mine brand new for $4)
my sister has the same converse skate shoes as your daughter, except hers are black and pink.
