Are You Ready for the Return of High-Waisted Pants?

Karen Walker Spring 07, Coutorture photo. I’ve never been one to fuss with suspenders, or risk white pants, still there’s something fetching about this ensemble. What are your thoughts about high-waisted pants?  Mine:

  • If you’ve never bought low-rise pants, don’t start now.
  • Unless low-rise pants fit you like high-waisted pants, in which case, stock up!
  • My romantic trendsetter daughter has been looking for them for over a year. It’s probably inevitable.
  • This flat-front look is very clean.
  • Length-balancing with pant outfits. This look is done perfectly, because the top blends with the model’s head.

(Check out Danielle’s Jordache jeans. They look super cute on her!)

  1. If I could find some high-waisted, wide-legged pants that would fit me properly, I would buy them in every color (provided, of course, that they are not $300)!! Last fall I went to the thrift and got several high-waisted pencil skirts and I get lots of compliments every time I wear them. I’m an hourglass shape, and high-waisted stuff is a great line on me.

I’m also tired of having to find very long shirts to wear with my low-waisted pants so that my undies don’t show when I bend over. 😉

  2. I could really use a whole tutorial on pants. I’ve worn skirts exclusively for all my more-or-less grown-up life, except for hiking through underbrush, but it’s just not working that well now that I spend so much time sitting cross-legged on the floor.

But I don’t have a clue what to look for in pants. How are they supposed to fit? What silhouettes should I look for? (I guess I’m an hourglass, although after two pregnancies and a c-section in the past two years, the sand is sifting down a bit.) I don’t want anything that draws attention to my hips for sure, but I hate boring, baggy clothes.

  3. {{{Tessa}}} ~ I’m so glad you’re back!

I agree. A couple of years ago I had a pair of wool high-waisted pants I wore ALOT, till the lining shredded.

    Your Majesty 🙂 ~

I hear you. Although I have lived most of my life in pants, I do like to dress up for church, but not when I’m in the nursery, cross-legged on the floor with the little ones.

I need to give the idea of a tutorial some thought. In the meantime, perhaps this post at youlookfab will be helpful: concerning rises

You might want to look at the pants at Eddie Bauer Women's Chinos and Women's Jeans and see if you see anything you like.

    More later!

  4. I’m not a huge fan of the high-waisted pants. Kinda reminds me of Steve Urkel. 🙂 But…That’s probably just me! I don’t do fads much unless I adore them. And I’m sure I’ll learn to adjust. I do like high-waisted skirts though. Oh, and I totally do not like suspenders (again “just me”), they’re too boyish for me. Oh, is that my romantic side showing through?

  5. Now here’s an interesting concept: to me, high-waisted pants are the classic; to you, they are a fad. I guess our ages are showing, aren’t they?

I think pretty much the only style type that likes suspenders are the innovators/trendsetters. I like the idea okay, but I’d never really wear them.

  6. I have a high waisted denim skirt, but because I have short legs and a long torso, high waisted fitted pants can be dodgy with a top tucked in as shown. Wider trousers are a bit more forgiving.

Suspenders work best, I think, if you have a boyish figure. On me, not so much!

  7. I don’t like high waisted pants! Please be kidding me! What then will our alternative be?

On the WP pictures, once you upload it and send it to editor, click the picture link in your top bar and then in the box that opens, click “Alignment” and it will give you choices…right, left, etc. Once I pick one of those, the words automatically text wrap the picture. HTHs!

  8. Personally, I love high-waisted pants and have been wearing them for quite a few years, but I like them only if they’re wide-legged as well. I’m curvy but also have a small waist, so they fit me really well.

High-waisted AND skinny-leg, however, is a different story. They just won’t do.

  9. Danielle’s did look very very cute. If I had a figure like hers, I’d wear them, too 😉

I balked at the low rise, but now I do like the effect of cutting my hips in half that the moderately low rise jeans give me. I feel like fashion will definitely have its trends, but I can’t see low rise going completely by the wayside.
