Blooming Lily posted a great picture of a SAHM wearing a variation of that Uniform Template for SAHM we’ve talked about here: Jeans, layered t-shirts, corduroy blazer and really cute boots that looked comfortable.
Tips to developing your own more polished casual look:
- Your jeans don’t have to be the latest thing, but do choose jeans that fit, flatter, and relate somehow to the current decade. Just for laughs, here’s a post with a picture of me in my painting jeans, taken in the year 2000. Ugh! Those are long gone, not even around for painting anymore.
- Here’s an old post that covers selecting the colors of the top and jacket. (Some of the links still go back to the old blog, but that’s okay. Slowly but surely I am getting things fixed, but I don’t want to quit posting in order to do it).
- Just say no to runners! Find some comfortable dark leather flats or boots for your everyday shoes.
What would you add to that list?
When I went digging in the archives, I found this comment:
Maybe they are called “mom jeans†because so many Moms just don’t care what they look like. They probably rationalize that life is busy with children, house, maybe a job outside of the home, and they figure that they are married, have children, and they don’t have to dress ‘nice’ anymore. At least that is what it looks like when I am out and about: sloppy hair, no make-up, ill-fitting clothes, and, yes, the “mom jeansâ€, often with an old t-shirt. I hope I am not being overly critical here, but we should like nice at least for ourselves (makes a difference in our moods), and certainly for our husbands!
I couldn’t agree more.
I like this look and “do” this look too. There’s nothing that spiffs up a pair of jeans and a T-shirt like a blazer. I like a button-up collared shirt too. Does wearing a jean jacket work or would that be considered sloppy? I love a jean jacket and have a couple I like to wear –one’s a Levi jacket and the other is a dark denim blazer style.
I can’t believe how many pajamas I see at the grocery store. What’s up with THAT? The funny thing is, the ones I’ve seen doing this are NOT SAHM’s.
Have you seen the Foodnetwork show “Take Home Chef?” This handsome Aussie finds some unsuspecting lady-shopper in the grocery store and asks her if he can go home with her and fix a meal for her family/hubby/boyfriend. The shopper must help pick out the food and cook it. It’s a good show. The very last comment he makes at the end of the show is, “I may be seeing you in the grocery store soon, so dress up!” How’s that for saying NO to pajamas?!
Hi Jody!
I think a jean jacket is fine, especially if it fits well.
And I don’t get the pjs thing either. That was a style, but it’s been over for a long time.
Sounds like a fun show, but we still don’t have a TV.
