In this classic post at The Space Between My Peers, I ask a series of riveting questions. What it all boils down to is this: is conversation a legitimate need in a healthy life or is it a waste of time?
Extra points for chapter and verse.

Rebecca,
I thought about starting a blog like this, but you know me – I have enough blogs already!
Although I can’t think of anything from the Bible that I could quote here to answer your question, I do believe that conversation is definitely needed in our life. Through our conversations we share our life experiences, teach others, and learn lessons. If you look throughout history, we’ve been a “species” that shares stories. The Holy Books are prime examples of God having a conversation with the messengers.
Granted, there are many conversations that are a waste of time, but in general – definitely not a waste of time…
I can’t quote chapter and verse either, but in my experience, conversation definitely is not a waste of time… although I completely agree with Maria that some conversations are 🙂
For me, the important conversations are the ones that provide an opportunity to share experiences, ideas and information. But most important are the ones that provide an all-important reality check — but I’m a dreamer so I doubt other people need that quite as much as I do!
I think that conversation is important, although that seems to be more of a female thing than a male thing.
Conversation is one of the many ways we connect with our fellow human beings. Connection with others is essential to our survival.
Proverbs 16:24 “Pleasant words are a honey comb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones”
I don’t think this refers to us talking to ourselves, and if so, I suppose that is still conversation.
Genesis 1:26 Then God said “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the see…..”
The Triune God converses and we are made in His image. We are not made to be solitary, but for relationship, and we know relationship requires conversation. I think I would burst without worthwile conversation.
