How to Wear Brown and Red Without Looking Like a Blood Clot
I can think of two, maybe three, ways to wear brown and red together without looking like a blood clot:
- With khaki, which is actually a tint of brown.
- With white.
- Maybe with pink, the tint of red.
- Never alone with black.
- Okay, also in a print with other brights such as apple green, hot pink, or turquoise.
- For the extreme outdoors person only: with camo.
If you’re daring enough to try it with solid color separates, I do advise using the 60/30/10 rule and keeping either the red or the brown the 10% accent.
It kinda reminds me of the color scheme of this blog. Have you noticed the picture of me has a brown frame now?
This just in: Take 25% off Gapbody swim styles. Limited time only. In stores and online. Most of what you will find I am not recommending as modest swimwear. But this Gap Essential tankini, if combined with a pair of board shorts, could work and it illustrates the colors I’m talking about here.

What Spokane’s Only Fashion Blogger is Wearing
… to Musicfest Northwest tomorrow, the same thing I wore to church yesterday:
~ allover smocked print top, layered over tank top
~ green khaki skirt
~ asparagus shoes, or maybe I’ll throw caution to the wind and wear
Chaco - Women’s Casual
(my borns won’t be in for another week or more).
… Wednesday evening, to the Awana Leader Appreciation Dinner: I have absolutely no idea. But it will certainly not be very dressy.
… this Friday, to the final MOPS meeting of the year: your favorite outfit from the white blouse fashion lab.
Why I want you to know I’m in Spokane:
- It explains why I’m so tired, and you might give me sympathy. Spokane is known as the Lilac City and now they are in bloom. No, I’m not tired from working hard, I have seasonal allergies.
- If you live here and you happen to run into me in the fitting room somewhere, I want you to feel quite comfortable asking my opinion.
- Are there any Spokane bloggers reading? And is anybody organizing any face to face meetings?
There you have it, what I had up my sleeve. Are you surprised?

Fashion Lab: Short Sleeved Pants
Announcing what I will wear to MOPS tomorrow: either the first outfit OR the same, but with jeans instead of short sleeved pants. And how about the sequin one for opening night?
Now, announcing the topic for next week’s Fashion Lab: The White Blouse. I will be picturing I am Fashion’s 6 Ways, with a twist - using the same shirt for all 6 looks! Anyone else who would like to play, put up a post sometime next Thursday and I will link to you Carnival-style.
Back to short sleeve pants, do you think they have a longer life expectancy than the slinky gauchos? Why or why not?

TeenStyle Tuesday & Ellegirl.com
As a member of the fashion blogging community Coutorture, I have various helps and benefits available to me, including the current (test-run) Elle.com and Ellegirl.com content share. We have a badge with their headlines and they have, at their site, a badge with ours.
This picture is from an Ellegirl.com feature on street style in Ecuador and Spain. Personally, I have a weakness for fashion magazines, but don’t subscribe to any, so it was loads of fun to flip through these pictures. This was my favorite.
She’s got all the basics down:
- Style personality. (There is nothing confusing here, only contemporary classic congruence.)
- Silhouette. Emphasizing the roundness of the shoulder area with the cap-sleeve creates a credible figure-eight.
- Lifestyle. Undoubtedly this young lady was treated well in the shops!

Just Linking: April 16, 2007
Last week I overlooked another friend of ours, Sales Rack Raider, whose jewelry creations are available to purchase. See her etsy store here.
Mom (kid) humor, from Life in a Shoe:
“Canadians? Are those the people that are supposed to be funny?”
You can add your kid humor to her Mr Linky. Marchauna should.
Humor makes me happy. So does getting free perfume. That’s right. Thanks to Amy at MotherLoad I just walked in to the retailer formerly known as Bon Marche, sashayed up to the Clinique counter, and left with my own little bottle of Happy-ness. It’s a nice fragrance. With a name like that, it just had to be, didn’t it?
BTW, a long time ago, Jess asked for maternity style stuff. I haven’t forgotten. (The guilt - it’s unbearable!) But now I want you to know that “short-sleeve pants” are available in maternity too! Chingow! Better late than never.

And finally, this Friday, I thought I would model my new short-sleeved pants for a Fashion Lab. Dress ‘em up, dress ‘em down. See if it really works. What do you think?

Shoes News
Well, the good news is I ordered my BORN - Women’s Niagara sandals. The bad news is they aren’t going to be delivered until May 25th. But I’m okay with that. In the meantime, perhaps I will find something at this month’s Shoes.com Saturday sale, this Saturday, April 14th.
