An Elegant and Affordable Bridal Gown

davidsbridalt9251ivory.jpgWhere would you look for bridal gowns if the consignment shops, thrift stores, and craigslist all turned up nothing?

My daughter, who had every intention of buying her own wedding dress for around $200, thought to head to David’s Bridal.  When asked the upper limit of her budget, she truthfully told the consultant that she would not go over $400.  And look what she got!

Now a word on modesty.  See the little cap sleeves?  This dress came with them, but it’s good to know they can be added to any strapless dress!

  1. Very pretty gown! If I were getting married again I’d head to Target and hunt up one of their wedding gowns (I think they are being discontinued though) — or else I’d find a classic, tea-length dress w/ princess seams in white . . . my first (and only! haha) wedding was nearly 21 yrs ago and just about the only regret I’ve had during those years was the $800 wedding gown/shoes/veil etc. ensemble. . . my in-laws ended up having to pay for it, we were waaaaay too young/poor to really know better. Brides nowadays have so much more to help them w/ planning their special day . . .

    Congratulations on your daughters wedding!

  2. Oh, what a dream of a dress, and it fits her perfectly. Where else (besides making a frank request at a bridal store): eBay, placing an ad in the paper under “Wanted to Buy”, or on the bulletin board at local drycleaners, etc.

A friend recently took a photo of an $6000 wedding dress to a local dressamer and had it duplicated, down to the exact beading, for $600.

  3. Thanks ladies!

Ellem, I have noticed Target’s wedding dresses online, but never in the store. Are they in your area? Hey, we must have gotten married around the same time. I actually still love my dress, although it’s packed away. Someday I should figure out how to scan a picture in and post it. I actually got it on sale for around $250 at a bridal shop, but then I had it taken in so I could barely breathe, of course. 😉

Duchesse, I had forgotten about ebay, thanks for mentioning it. Originally she had been hoping to find an actual vintage dress and we did check ebay, I think etsy too. Now she’s actually considering selling this dress, thus bringing her investment closer in line to what she had originally planned. I love the idea of having someone make it. Wonder how much time that would require.

The necklaces were from ebay and were very affordable. She bought four for the bridesmaids and when they came she liked them so well, she bought herself one. 🙂

  4. What a gorgeous dress, and she looks absolutely breath taking. It looks better than many of the very expensive dresses I’ve seen over the years.

    Christine
