Friday Fashion Lab: In the Fitting Room

This post is sort of a part two to a previous post picturing some items I purchased for $4.97 each at JCPenney earlier in the week. Today, when I went to return the skirt and the jacket (to a different JCPenney store), the final clearance was all priced at $3.97!

The top was not clearance. However, it was still a contender. In the end, I decided to go for the dark green pictured further down (they were each on sale for $12.99) and wait for this one to be reduced further.

The skirt is several inches longer than the previous one, but it is all cotton. Should I keep it?

Purely for your amusement, I threw in thepictures of these two skirts: the magenta wouldn’t have been bad without the zoomy zipper up the bu** and the long one … well, what do you think I’d look like wearing it? (Have you ever heard the term “bun head”?  And must it always be disrespectful?)

This third set of pictures illustrates my new personal rule:  pants, for me, must stop at or above the knee or continue at least to the ankle. The reason? While my legs in total are short, from the knee down, they are actually (proportionally) an inch long.

Now, about these last two pictures:

  1. I am elated!  Ever since the early ’90s, when I was shopping Lane Bryant for pregnancy clothes, I have been waiting for this green to reappear on the scene.
  2. Yes, I really did wear Great Northwest outdoor gear to the mall.  Sssshhh!  Don’t tell Angie.  😉

  1. Awwww, I too love that green … it was the color of my bridemaids’ dresses, a dark bluish green. That’s a cute top. I think I need to get over to JCPenney!

  2. The pink skirt w/ zipper is CUTE!!! Why no pics of it on you? As for the long skirt, “frumpy” came to mind — but I don’t know what “bun head” means! I think you look quite good in the middle pic w/ the grey longer shorts, they are flattering w/ the seam down the front, and would look great w/ a pointy-toed kitten-heel pump . . . .

I can’t believe it — all clearance at $4??? Why aren’t there any good sales going on when I visit the US?? (I live overseas)

  3. I don’t think any of those skirts suit your idiom. When I first saw the brown on brown, I thought it was a dress. I also thought it was M, not you. The floral is too romantic, and the hot pink with zipper is too attention-grabbing.

Sorry, I just always imagine you in a shapely sheath.

  4. Christine – that’s a great color for bridesmaid dresses!

Ellem – from the front that skirt is just another just-above-the-knee pencil skirt. And I didn’t want to publish a picture of me from behind. 😉

Chrs – I’m really glad I got that top. I wore it to church today (with the white linen trousers and pearls) and got good reviews.

    Jennifer – I probably will. 🙂

Beth – Why be sorry for that? 😉

  5. Given your comeback, I’d be avoiding buying dowdy, and I have to say that brown skirt was dowdy and ended at a part of your legs that make them look chunky, which they’re not, and the floral one was just the skirt version of your blog about floral frocks.

I love the green top, and I thought the brown top looked quite cute too, and would work with a slim fitting pair of trousers.

can I also add, unless you have great sentimental attachment to your belt (worn in the pics with your jeans), I’d be losing it as it creates a very dominant focal point right down your body near your hips, a long way from your pretty face. If you need to wear a belt, find one with a discreet buckle that blends with your jeans.

I thought the shorts on the right were most flatteirng, they’d be really cute with a pair of ballet flats and feminine top.

I’m so jealous about how cheap you can buy clothes, your $5 rack is our $25 rack!

That’s economy of scale for you.

  6. I bet that pink skirt was sensational on… except for the zipper. I’m not a fan of that. Makes me think of the sparkly words across the tush.

I like the green top very much. The neckline has the loose relaxed style, without the frump which some of the poofier ones.

  7. Yes, I knew you would. 😉

And I wonder if, out here in the Great Northwest, there aren’t just times when a person can’t be appropriately dressed without the big belt buckle. lol
