WFMW: Double Your Comments
Guaranteed to increase your comments from 1 to 2, from 2 to 4:
respond to your visitors who comment
Over time you will build a community of conversation. Don’t we all have enough places to shut up and listen already?
(While I try, I admit I’m not always there, especially on weekends.)

So, do you respond by email, or on your blog, or on their blog, or does it matter?
I know this works, and I don’t know why I am not doing it as often as I’d like to or I should do. Thanks for the reminder
Is this a test, Elaine?
I use a combination and I’m not sure it matters, as far as relationship building. But for increasing comments, I will nearly always respond to the first comment, especially if it’s the only one. And if my answer would be interesting to others to read, I will generally post it here as well.
I added comment relish (I think that’s the name of the plugin) this week, after finding myself sending basically the same email to every new commenter. How did you like it?
Liza, thanks for the encouragement!
Rebecca,
This tip made me smile, as I commented on your blog for the first time yesterday. Sure enough, I received a kind and prompt reply.
I agree with this!! It always bugs me to no end when I write a comment on a post and it goes unanswered - especially if I asked a question. (Of course, the exception would be if the comment is just a generic “wow that’s great!”) It also encourages other people to RETURN to your blog to read follow-up comments, which means they will see (and be sucked in! hehe) to other posts you’ve written… I think this is a great tip!
Thank you for the tip. I have often wondered how to comment back.
Hugs,
Melinda
I’m another who knows I should be doing this, but always forgets to.
Smiling back at ya, Carrie! And I’ve been enjoying checking out your blog too.
I hesitated to share this, but I’m glad it seems to have been helpful.
Great advice! I’m a newbie, so pardon this question if I seem dense. When I leave a comment on my blog in response to another comment (in the style of: Jenny–thanks for the comment–to answer your question…) will “Jenny” be notified that I added a comment or do I need to email her as well?
Simple, yet effective!
This is definitely a good reminder and also like you mentioned a good network building tool!
I once received an automated “thank you for commenting on my blog” email..what do you think of those??? Are they too impersonal?? I don’t know how you set that up anyway but was just wondering what you thought about it?
Great idea!
Yes, it works great in creating new friendships.
I take quiet time to comment back.
MamaArcher asked about automated mails.
Well, it’s kind people took the time once to write a reply, but when people take the time to comment, then you can at least visit their sites and comment back.
If people prefer mails, they would have mailed in the first place.
Hmmmm, I guess it kind of was a test. But I’m a new blogger, and I really haven’t decided which one to do yet. I usually respond to the first comment by email, and if I think it would add to the discussion on my blog I comment there as well. I usually visit the blogs of those who comment on mine for the first time, and leave a comment there if I find some interesting things. I confess I rarely (as in haven’t ever) subscribe to RSS feeds for comments, so I didn’t even see what had been added to the discussion–including your response to me–until now. So SAHMmy, commenters will not automatically be notified. I must confess, Rebecaa, your timely, but automated email, struck me as…timely and automated. But, it was a nice surprise to come back here and read all of this. And very sneaky of you, Rebecca, to make us all Rockin’ Girl Bloggers! I may just have to steal that idea. Clever girl! -e.
[…] for the first time last week. You might remember that she was the smarty who posted to WFMW about doubling your comments. Since I have recently become addicted to “comment crack” (credit for that one here), […]
he hee. I wonder how many times I sent real personal emails and people thought they were automated? Oh well.
I’m glad you came back, Elaine. btw, I love your blog name.
