Real Fashion for Real People! Kick-off

Announcing Real Fashion for Real People! as suggested by Alyson.

If you aren’t too busy with vacation, please consider participating. (If you are going on vacation, perhaps it would be good to try on your outfits beforehand anyway.) Ideally I would like to feature an outfit or two from each style personality type for each lifestyle segment: leisure, casual, business, and social.

Here are the guidelines:

  • Use things that all of us wear, that we can afford, from places we actually shop, and for the lifestyle that we really have. (Just no designer pieces that are unrealistic for most people.)
  • Please include what you think is your style personality or blend from my quiz. You may also include any other descriptors you can’t do without: “rock chick”, “bohemian”, “beachy”, or whatever. 🙂
  • Email the pictures to me (rebecca at between my peers dot com), with a brief description of the outfit.

Like this:

striped-skirt-lightweight-hoodie-sleeveless-t-and-naturalizers.JPGPersonal style idiom: Primarily a blend of contemporary and functional, with a slightly stronger than usual need for individuality.

Lifestyle segment: casual.

Top: Old Navy sleeveless tee + cami, both via a daughter.

Hoodie: $1 at Value Village, BRAND NEW WITH THE TAGS STILL ON!

Skirt: clearance at The Gap. Several summers ago.

Shoes: hand-me-down from my grandma.

Submit your outfits by Wednesday July 11, for publication the week of the 16th through the 21st. This will be fun!

  1. Just wanted to say loved your pic, and that pink hoodie was a steal! This sounds like a great idea, I’m all for “real fashion”! 🙂

  2. This is going to be fun – I can’t wait to see what real people are wearing and come away with new ideas and combos. Rebecca, love the hoodie, and now that I’ve seen several pics of clothes in your closet, I’m seeing how well you’ve done with building a multi-functional, mix and match wardrobe. Applause (and envy) from my corner! I’ve got to learn to do a better job with that! 🙂

  3. Yes, I am so glad I got the hoodie. I almost didn’t even try it on, because it is a larger size than I usually wear. But it works fine and it will fit me longer, allowing for shrinkage.

Alyson ~ your comment leads me to think the process of developing a color plan. Perhaps a future post?

You dark haired ladies have one advantage: black is a no-brainer in your color plan!

  5. I’m too busy right now preparing for my trip next week to London, but I definitely hope you do this again because I have some great outfits I want to take pictures of after I get back 🙂

  6. I do think I want to do it again. Thinking about whether it should be on any kind of a regular schedule or not. I’d love to have you participate. I’ve been working on the posts and it’s going to be very fun!
