Be Prepared

Peppered throughout the year are what I call “theme days”; days when it seems appropriate to wear a certain color usually, or sometimes a certain ethnicity, of clothing. Some are on the calendar, others pop up randomly.

For example:

  • St Patricks Day (US): Necessary to wear green to avoid being pinched. My real reason for buying the rockin’ $2 belt I wore last night.
  • Valentine’s Day, of course, we like pink and/or red.  Best without black.
  • Luaus and various Hawaii or tropical theme events can sometimes catch one by surprise.
  • Patriotic days in the US typically feature red, white, and blue dress.

For this year’s Independence Day celebration, which in our case is generally not much of a celebration, I found this cute red & white paisley top, also for $2.

Mixing red & white, or blue & white for that matter, is an easy adaptive technique for those of us with soft coloring and light complexions. Bright red can be overwhelming!

What are some other “theme days” that it’s good to be prepared for?

  1. How about “I’m a hormonally driven psycho and today everything looks awful on me” Day?! That’s a day that every woman should be prepared for! (hee hee)

  2. Oh yes, Blest, but the trouble is, when you got up that day and realized you needed that outfit, well, it would be in the wash, right? I mean, it would be all your favorites! 😀

  3. Easter? Wearing pastels? 🙂

How about Christmas? Wearing red, green or white to get into the spirit of things! (No reindeer sweaters please)

Or your fool-proof going-out-with-a-friend, or for single women, a sexy, but not too sexy outfit? 🙂

  4. Hi Kate! It’s really cute and I’d definitely consider selling it, mainly because it’s small enough that I’m not certain how well it’s going to work for me. (I didn’t try it on first, oops!)

  5. I just went to a mother/daughter banquet with a luau last night and I thought for sure I could find something to wear in my closet, so I didn’t prepare ahead. Yesterday morning I tried to find something and ended up unable to find anything! I couldnt’ believe it. Now a hawiian outfit for ‘just in case’ is on my list of things to keep an eye out for!

That top is adorable — I love it!

  6. Even if you just had a lei that you could put with any outfit …

I suppose something western could be handy from time to time too.
