What I Was Doing in the Picture

So, if you are here in person you are seeing a real, live picture of me, intentionally indistinct, in either a white frame or black, accompanied by the quote which was sent to me by Blestwithsons. What you are not seeing is what’s on the screen in front of me.

Here’s the background: Fabulously Broke in the City did a post recently on Stacy London’s appearance on Oprah – getting the right jeans to fit. When I mentioned in comments what my hero calls “elk jeans”, with emphasis on the fact that women elk are called cows … well, you are just going to have to go over there and read the conversation. LOL.

So when he noticed me from out on the sidewalk in front of our house and snapped the picture through the window, I was indeed googling “Washington elk”. I was looking for a picture of the south end of a north-bound elk, so to speak.

Back to the header picture, feedback so far has been inconclusive. Does the blurriness bother you?

  1. (Phew I need to get a shorter URL for my blog!)

*wide grin* Every time I read that conversation in my post, I crack up… and now I’m even more picky about what type of jeans I wear. You should see me in the store practically doing aerobics trying to see how I look at all unflattering angles…

  2. Now that I know the story of what you’re doing in the picture it doesn’t bother me as much.
I can convince myself that the blurriness is to do with the glow from the monitor, even though part of the story is that you’ve said that’s not so. But when I didn’t know what you were doing then there was an out-of-focus picture of you seemingly deliberately looking away and… it seemed weird. In the photo of you with your husband you are smiling and friendly looking – that’s encouraging. The blurry glancing away picture is at odds with what the ambience of this blog is… it’s like we’re interrupting you. And yes certainly it does suggest a big distance between you and your peers.

  3. I had wondered about that – if it would appear unfriendly because I was looking away. Clearly, that doesn’t work either.

Well, I was confident that if there was a compelling reason to keep at it, it would come out. Thanks!

  4. just my 2 cents- I didn’t think it looked unfriendly. I was glad to “see” you, and the blurriness makes it artsy. but it won’t bother me if you change it.

    IMHO

  5. I think it looks fine. I think you get the abstract feel from it. However, if you mirror the picture, you’ll be looking into the page not out, which is a bit more inviting.

  6. I’m not a big fan of the blurriness, although it is kind of artsy. I do think that it might work if you mirror it. I think that’s a fab idea!

  7. It kinda looks like a scene from a scary movie to me. I find myself wanting to yell “Watch Out! He’s behind you!”

But that’s just me & I, admittedly, have issues! 🙂

  8. LOL. bee, that’s hilarious. & not so far from accurate!

Well, here’s what I have decided to try for the time-being, if it works for my volunteer photoshopper:

    ~ mirror the image
~ replace the black frame with chocolate brown
    ~ bold the white lettering.

I may later try to do something different and I’m still open to ideas, but I need a little break. 🙂

I made another minor adjustment, too. Is the blog loading faster for ya?
