Two Ways to Wear the Almost Flesh Tone Jacket

2007_april-017.jpgTwo ways to wear a jacket that is close in tone to your skin color, without becoming washed out:

  • Just exactly like Beth did here, for a second interview on a casual Friday. She brings a darker color in around her face, thereby repeating the color values in her face, eyes, and hair.
  • For a rosy glow, combine the jacket with a collared top or scarf in your cheek color or close facsimile. For me, that would be anything from a light pink to coral, Beth can use bluer pinks. Darker complexion? Red works.

BTW, she did get the job!

  1. Congratulations to Beth on the new job!
And, ‘though I couldn’t see the second photo, I imagined it. This finally made sense of the advice to try flattering shades of powder or lipstick. That doesn’t work, but the blusher/cheek idea does!
I had ordered some long sleeved cotton tees on sale and gambled on one color that I couldn’t get a fix on. Antique rose they called it. Meant nothing. Looked like a dusty midtone peach, maybe.
Turned out to be my favorite of all. My cheek/blusher color! I look incredibly well-rested and glowing in this. Not a color I would have even thought to try if I’d spotted it in a store.

Then I took more of your advice – where you have every style of top you wear that matches your eye color – the eye color advice not so exciting on me – and I went back online and ordered everything in my size by that manufacturer in that exact shade – flyaway cardigan (had to get maternity 🙂 ) , turtleneck, cotton shirt.

So, many thanks! Been needing an extra dress to wear to dinners we occasionally attend that are family-oriented and informational (hemophilia). Plan to scout thrift stores for something in this color.

  2. That’s fabulous, Vildy! And the great thing is, because you got them all at the same time, from the same place, you are likely to end up with some DIY twin sets.

It sounds like a color that will be very easy to pair with any neutral, as well.

I could use a dress in some sort of a peach/pink/rose too. Right now I am getting by with skirts and my one dark blue dress.

  3. That outfit is adorable! And congrats to Beth about the job!

I like the idea of repeating color value…definitely something for me to contemplate! Thanks for always making me think!
