I’ll Say It Again About White Pants

Spring is definitely upon us, bringing with it light colored pants. Here’s what I said last year about what I don’t like about white pants:

ladies, I just don’t want to wonder what kind of underwear you are wearing, and whether I am seeing skin through your thin pants. Please! Right now, today, try on your white pants from last season. Be honest, are they decent? If they are linen or light-weight cotton, they should be lined. If they are denim, they should be thick. If in doubt, throw them OUT!

To which I would like to add:

Never wear skin-tight, skin-color anything!

Seen on the street just the other day: a jogger wearing close-to-skin-color spandex pants. Ugh!

  1. I totally agree with you on white pants. I don’t wear them either for that reason, as well as the fact that you get anything on them and it’s more than obvious. With kids especially…. they chuck a half eaten pb and j at you, and you’re done. On jeans, ahhh, just wipe it off. 🙂

I saw a pair of the spandex, flesh colored shorts you were referring to as well. I had to do a double take. You have to wonder what the person was thinking. On the other hand, if they are brave (???) enough to wear spandex, I guess it doesn’t matter what color it is anyway. haha

  2. I made my white pants out of moderate-weight twill, and they’re definitely not skin-tight, so hurray! It’s spring white-pants time!

  3. I love the look of white pants and skirts…So fresh! But I do agree, make sure they’re modest! I guess I’ll be sitting white out for a while though thanks to the addition of the “spit up king.” 🙂

    And flesh colored spandex…Eewww…

  4. I love white pants and skirts too, for summer. I still don’t like to see them before Memorial Day, even though I know that is just not ‘in’ anymore and probably pretty old fashioned.

My white pants and skirts are almost always a heavy material and NEVER see through. That really looks bad! I think white can be done in a very classy way for summer. White and black, white and navy blue, etc.

Skin colored anything unless you are a figure skater…and even then those are a little risque at times…almost never appropriate.

  5. You ladies make me want to actually get a pair of white pants.

Deborah, I agree about those color combinations. They look so fresh! Honestly, though, strange as it seems now, I never even thought about connecting white pants and skirts with Memorial Day.

Something about the light around here, it has to be pretty sunny for me to look good in white, so mostly I limit white to very summery stuff anyway. It’s been very nice and sunny around here lately (but we had a big snow/hail storm yesterday afternoon), so I’ve been craving the brighter color combinations and getting out the last of my summer stuff. 🙂

  6. For me it has to be a pretty sunny day too to wear white. I guess that is a big reason why I don’t like to see it worn in the winter or on rainy, dreary days. It just doesn’t seem to fit. But…I don’t like flip flops in winter either and I’ve seen a lot of that lately! I guess I’m becoming my grandparents and I used to be so hip and young! LOL

  7. That must be what makes spring so hard to dress for: when it’s sunny, purples and greys seem dusty; but when it’s rainy, white is out of place. And people around here say, “if you don’t like the weather, just wait fifteen minutes”. LOL

  8. This reminds me of when Stacey from What Not to Wear used herself as a model to show which underwear NOT to wear with white shorts.
