Frugal Upstate’s Improve Your Blog Contest

improve-your-blog-month.jpgJenn has declared April Amateur Improve Your Blog Month and is sponsoring a contest. To enter, read the rules here, then write your post and add it to the Mr Linky here. Oh, and keep checking Frugal Upstate for cool free stuff Jenn has found to help with this project.

This week is template week. When we talked about this template theme, the consensus seemed to be that we don’t hate it. Tinkering in the most minor way may be all I do this week, unless something fabulous comes along.

Things I’d like to get to soon, though:

  • posting a picture of me.
  • cleaning up the sidebar, especially categories.
  • incorporating the Epictetus quote.
  • finding a way to get some pink on the blog.
  • improving my “about me” page.

What I’d like to ask you: Does anybody have any banner concept ideas?

And here’s my screenshot (thanks for the tutorial, Jenn!)beginningblogshot.jpg

  1. Banner Ideas:

A closet bar with an array of cool clothes hanging from it…

A paper doll with outfits lined up beside…

Different mirrors… or one long mirror…and that quote I sent you! I like that quote – bring it back!!! (she said imperiously)

  2. I like the quote too. It’s coming. And I like all those ideas. Hmmm.

Thank you! I’m going to have to have a look at the site that Jenn found for making banners.

  3. Hmm, the idea of a closet bar sounds cool!

In my post tomorrow I’ll be mentioning a blog post that a lady wrote telling you how to make your own picture banner using photoshop (and I’ll give a link to a freeware version of photoshop) that will probably be more along the lines of what you want-the other one I mentioned is just to make a text banner.

Thanks for joining in the fun!

  4. One concept would be something that had gaudy clothes on one side and fashionable on the other with a space in between… Play on the name?

Another one playing on the name– a group of people (clique) on one side, and a person in fashion on the other standing confidently.

Three people– one in fashion in the middle. Something to highlight the name.

  5. Actually I had noticed. I like it alot. Didn’t I leave a comment? Oh well, I must have just thought about it real hard. =D
