Month of Sundays Project: January 2007

I am kicking off a new feature here: a month’s worth of Sunday outfits all based on a single pant or skirt (a concept from way back near the blog’s beginning). While it could just as easily be a skirt (like the year-round khaki skirt I started with), I prefer a nice pair of wool trousers for January. Where to find them? These are Banana Republic, but I got them thrift. If thrifting’s not good in your area, that’s okay — it’s winter clearance season! (Hint: I have found the best deals the first week of February.)

So for this series of pictures, taken by my beloved back-up photographer, I simply used my single pair of wool trousers combined with the two top-of-the-list sweaters from my casual lifestyle segment, jacket optional. These are the same tops I would wear with dark jeans for any party or meeting.

Just for fun, which outfit should I wear this Sunday?

  1. maybe it’s just me, but those pictures are sort of small, and you can’t click on them to get them to open up larger or anything. That’s ok for a general “gee, the outfit looks ok” sort of thing, but you are often looking at very specific detailing, or how parts of the outfit relate etc. I just found it a bit small to see on my computer (I just run basic old windows IE 6.0)

Just thought you’d like to know, what with the new system and all.

Personally I sort of like the last one, but that is because it would look best with my dark hair color (dark hair, dark blazer, gee, have I been listening or what!)

  2. Small pix for me, too. And I had no idea anything happened when the cursor passed over the pictures! Am running Firefox 1.5.0.9.

Your legs look a mile long in the first picture.

  3. Thanks for all your input, ladies.

For myself, I will probably wear the first outfit tomorrow, and the only one I don’t really like is the fourth one. If I buttoned up the jacket and/ or put on a belt, that one might be okay too. I also remembered I have a blue silk dress shirt that I might try with that combination, but maybe it would be too colorful for me.

About the pics: I uploaded them from my computer and then put them in the post by drag-and-drop. Anybody know a better way, off the top of your head? I agree they are small. And I didn’t see anything when I ran the cursor over the pictures, but I’m glad to know that it did that. I assume it’s just what I named the pictures: plaid wool trousers, gray sweater, or whatever.

  4. I am using IE 7, and yes, I see your picture names when I put the cursor over the shot.

I think you’re right, if you belt the pants in image 4 you’ll have a more polished look.

  5. I like the 2nd picture with the trousers and grey sweater tucked in with belt in loops. Very polished! Also the first with the belted blazer. I am going to try the belt around the waist thing for work tomorrow…it is so cute on you!

  6. Thanks, ladies. I wore the first outfit today and got lots of compliments. Of course, the color of the jacket is quite eye-catching. Then it was easy when I came home to just change the pants for jeans, take off the jacket, throw my belt on and I have basically the second outfit but with jeans instead of trousers.

It was really nice to have my clothes all decided, too. Not surprisingly I didn’t sleep well at the hotel, thus I was super-sleepy this morning. This project is a keeper!

  7. i’ve been here catching up, rebecca. LOVE the new blog, and i liked outfit#1 the best as well.

i have no idea how you got the fancy descriptions to pop up like that when you scroll over, but i’m impressed!

  8. Hi Melanie.

Hey, if you ever want to do a project like this, let me know about it so I can link to yours. My next one should go up sometime the week of January 29 – February 2.

Thanks for coming by and leaving a comment!
