Illustrating the Fall Template

This post by my bloggy friend HolyMama is why I’ve been thinking about that classic combo, white t-shirt and jeans. Oh, and my Zafu post.

A personal secret: I always wanted to be a model. Imagine my thrill when, for the second time since I started this blog, MY HUSBAND asked me, very seriously, if one of the on-line catalog pictures I featured was a picture of me. I think he likes me!

Bringing all this around to the topic at hand, what to wear for fall , allow me to point out that white t-shirt and jeans is already the majority of the recipe I recently proposed for a fall uniform template. Just add a a salty jacket.

Unfortunately I could not find a clean white tee this morning, although I did wear these jeans and shoes, so I am making due with a previously published picture. Note the jacket, very much a leisure style, is my hair color.

  1. I thought the Zafu picture looked like you, even though I knew it wasn’t.

OK, what about those of us for whom jeans do not fit our idiom?

  2. Beth,

It took me a few hours to adjust to the idea of jeans not fitting in someone’s idiom. OK, it’s still hard to get my brain around the idea, but I thought of some alternatives:

~ black, brown, charcoal, or plaid trousers
~ a mid-calf or longer skirt in any of those colors
~ jean or jean substitute (corduroy, khaki, etc) skirt

Believe me, I’ll keep thinking about it. Do you like any of those ideas?

  3. Yes, the trousers idea was where I naturally went anyway. Although I now have quite a collection of skirts going and am on the look out for some nice boots.

T-shirts plus a winter layering piece works perfectly as a starting point with any of these. I often try to dress once for the entire day, so a more polished look is needed.

Although, trouser style jeans with nice boots would probably be OK.

Just have to challenge you a little bit, since we don’t all live in leisure wear!

    xoxo

  4. It’s all in the shoes.

Although I used a leisure picture, it wasn’t the initial illustration of the principle — that one was intended to be in the reader’s mind: the Zafu picture + the jacket in your own hair color. Clearly an on-the-town look in most US locales.

Glad to understand why we weren’t understanding each other. 😉

I agree with Maria about dark jeans looking sophisticated. I will use my new INC jeans for my fall trousers, until it is cool enough for my wool/cotton plaid ones.

  5. hi! i’m here catching up, and there’s my name! thanks!

i love your dark jeans. do you ever ear light ones? my sis says she doesn’t ‘because she’s a yankee.’ i don’t get that argument, esp since she’s every bit as texan as i!

  6. I’m glad you didn’t give up visiting here altogether after you got behind on your 282 blogs.hehe

Yes, actually my clean laundry photo, which I am too lazy to find the link to, pictures me in my lighter jeans. A couple of days after I published that photo I found another pair of almost identical ones for $1 at Value Village, so now I have one pair for heels and one for flats.

I think lighter jeans are more casual.
