For those of you who weren’t around then, I’d like to indulge in a little nostalgia. I had been blogging for just 3 months (this was before Coutorture) when I wrote this post. A quote:
I confess that I’m mystified by blog-itics (the politics of getting noticed in the blogosphere). The notion that value is measured by the number of other bloggers linking to you puzzles me; does that mean that because my sister and my husband own the only blogs that link to mine, my content is of little value?

I’m still figuring out my own system. I’m no longer up-tight about who links to me and who doesn’t. And I’m very much looking forward to the day when I can actually read all my own linkages.
one nice thing about linkage is that it can bring traffic to your own site… if thats what you’re in blogging for. but from reading you, i can tell thats not the whole story. i personally link to other blogs to give my own readers a chance to see blogs i like. the only problem with this is there are too many!
Oh yes, you’re very perceptive that traffic isn’t the whole story, but then there’s this recurrent desire to be POPULAR. Ugh!

I do love the linkages, and I love the people too.
I try to keep my blogroll fairly short and edited too, with the same troubles – too many blogs! I very much don’t like to take the whole link thingy personally. I try to keep the blogroll limited to the stuff I check regularly, or more recently, friends I’ve met face to face.
I just like to assume that no-one will care, and then when people do care enough to link, it’s a pleasant surprise.
In an ideal world, a link ought to be a response to a point of interest, not a social obligation but a natural commentary. Of course it’s not so simple!
I’m psycho, and recently removed all the links from my blogroll because I was afraid that people would be all “who the hell is this Linmayu person and why is she linking to me?!” Maybe I’ll put them back. xD
I understand the thought, Linmayu, but probably they’d all be honored.
The question I always wonder is if I am supposed to give notice that I have linked someone. Some have asked that people do, in order that they may reciprocate, but I don’t think it’s any breach of etiquette to just link to a blog.
